[1.12] Where Did the Roads Go?

I just started my first FE v1.12 game. I built a settlement and a second city but there are no roads between them. I just switched to v1.19Frog ... still no roads. Any ideas?

You need a Civics technology to get roads. It is in the second tier I think, read the descriptions it should tell you.

Yeah it's the Trading technology in the Civilization tree. And there is another technology that will connect roads to outposts (can't remember off the top of my head)
