Odd... their ad says "it's plug and play so it will work with your computer guaranteed." I'd give Kensington support a shot, or uninstall and plug in again. Have you tried unplugging and then re-plugging in?

If none of the above work... maybe exchange it where it was purchased?

I have tried unplugging and replugging in, in all 6 usb slots on my computer. I have tried restarting; I have even gone so far as to uninstall the driver itself in device manager and reinstall via plug and play. I also tried cleaning my registry, and uninstalling my original mouse and only leaving the Kensington plugged in. And no, I have not tried their tech support because it was a gift and I can't exchange it.

Not windows 8, No. I am running on up to date Windows 7 Home Premium.

I have fiddled with this mouse for about 2 days, so this problem really is driving me up the wall; onto the roof, and almost over the edge. Any help will be appreciated.

Sell the mouse and buy a better one...problem solved! There's a reason it was so cheap.

And Thanks Dave. I'll have a look at it and see what I can find. And I don't know what 'MouseWorks' Is. If its a program, its not installed on my computer. I have the bare minimum of programs and games I play and others I use for maintaining my computer etc.

I looked at the reviews for it on NewEgg and it seems like a decent little mouse for what it is.

I'm taking it for granted that you're using it on a mousepad or such and not on anything shiny like glass, right?  It could be your old mouse would track on something that this one won't.

I have had mice freeze up because they had a single little strand of hair or such down in the laser well on the bottom of the mouse.  But if you're going back and forth between machines and it consistently works on the others but not on yours that's probably not the case.  You might check that, while the mouse is off to keep the laser out of your eyes.

If you really want to go for it you might uninstall any keyboard software like MS Intellitype or Logitech keyboard if you've got it installed, could be some sort of conflict there I suppose, but that's reaching.  I'm just guessing.

After all this, my guess is that it's a defective mouse.

I'd tell the person who gifted you, and say "I think it's just what I need, so I'd like to exchange it for another. Did you save the receipt, or where did you get it so I can do the exchange."

That isn't rude at all... after all, the person did want you to have a good, functioning mouse.

If the mouse is not broken, perhaps you have another device that is interfering?  Have you cleaned out all broken devices (including any hidden ones) in device manager?  Have you tried using the mouse in safemode?

Another possibility might be that there is some setting you need to change, but i cannot imagine how this could be.

This is odd, but I just noticed with the mouse plugged in; the computer repeatedly makes the 'new device connected' sound. Hm... -Kicks self in face- Well, I feel like an idiot at this moment. -.-"

Glad you got it working.  Always annoying when a should-be-simple new toy is stubborn for some obscure reason.
