Is GalCiv ONE still worth checking out?

Getting back into TBS, and absolutely LOVING GalCiv 2 UE, but want to get more of them.

 

Is the first game still recommended after spending a lot of time with GalCiv 2? Is it different enough to warrant a purchase? Is it still fun and engaging?

Here is a rundown of the differences between GalCiv 1 and GalCiv 2: DL by Frogboy himself.

In my opinion, GalCiv 1 is still a good game, but GalCiv 2 is clearly superior in every way. It might be worth a look, if you are interested in the history of the game (at least the windows-version), but can be ignored otherwise.

Thank you for the link. More helpful than I was expecting. Seems to me that, at the very least, I'm better off getting some other 4X / TBS games for the moment.

 

I have Sins of a Solar Empire, what other 4X games do you recommend? I'm looking into Secret of the Stars, but not so sure. Anything else? I mean the ones that stand-up by today's standards. I know about Alpha Centauri and Masters of Orion, but I'm not sure they hold up.
