Fallen Enchantress’s Map Pack DLC FAQ

Fallen Enchantress’s Map Pack DLC FAQ

image

Q: What is the Map Pack?

A: It is a collection of pre-made maps and random map stamps.

Q: Does it help with randomly generated maps?

A: Yes, it includes a host of new stamps that make the random maps richer as well.

Q: What’s special about the pre-made maps over a randomly generated map?

A: With pre-made maps, we can do things that the random map generator can’t.

Q: Like what?

A: For example, it includes the Anthys map which is over 5X bigger than the normal large map. A normal large map fills up with 8 players. With Anthsys, over a dozen players would have lots of room to expand.

We also have boats on these maps that players can take to sail out to areas and explore the seas for hidden islands and treasures. Pre-made maps also let us do crazy things like have a map where it’s all Wild Lands all the time with everyone trying to survive and ultimately conquer them.

Q: Are the starting positions hard-coded?

A: No, even on Anthys, we made it so that the starting positions are randomized so that you can play it over and over again.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: $4.99

Q: Where can I get it?

A: You can get it here: https://www.elementalgame.com/fallen-enchantress/purchase.  If you bought FE on Steam, you can get it on the Steam page.

Heck I figure I still owe Kael about $200 just for FFH2 so I'll buy anything Stardock put out for this game! :P

So yeah, do an alternative Anthys map with fixed start locations and I'll buy it!! :D

Does the Anthys map take a lot more memory to play on? I run Win XP (because I have used Vista and 7 and I hate them) so I have problems with really long loading times as well as crashes. If the extremely large map won't work very if at all I may have to think about whether the rest of the map pack is worth it.

I will buy the map pack becaus of this:

I'd love fixed start locations on this map as well. Perhaps in next expansion, when they make Umber and Capitar as factions again.

While they where at it they could upgrade it with new terrain types from the expansion as well (I'd lve winter terrain), and the new naval system if that is in the expansion as well.

Umm... Anthys is about twice the size of a large. How do i play this 5x bigger we were promised, Sorry if i come off as rude but the "5x bigger" is the only reason i bought this map pack.

editing several codes or downloading a simple mode, you can play such big maps.... as long as your computer handle it and the game does not break from massive memory problems.

Personally I have not played anything smaller than 14x10 (the default 'Large' map is 8x6).

The new features also coerced me to buy it. I also had an ulterior motive: I wanted to support Stardock and encourage them to release more content for the game.

To the Stardock devs: DLC that adds new tech, spells (particularly summons) and MUCH more random events/items would be much appreciated.

Well, I bought it . . . although I'd buy almost anything made by Stardock - and have.  But as far as DLC goes, it's not particularly exciting.

Will there be more DLC?  Will it be better?  I'd love to see something that adds more spells, or something that makes the combat at least as good as MoM (and maybe even AoW, because it's one of the weak points), or adds in Titans, or my personal favorite, the Item Forge.

Let's just put it this way - as I've played the game, the one thing I've never said is, hey, I'd really like more maps.  But I've cursed the unimpressive combat, rued the small number of spells, and sneered at the minimal selection of magic items.

Thank you for that info . I just got the DLC and am looking forward to trying that wild lands map :)

I would also like to see a Umber and Capitar return DLC.

The Wildlands and larger "sculpted" map are what made it worthwhile to me. I'm really enjoying the game, and hope FE is financially successful enough to expand it. That said, I never wished for more maps while I was playing FE. More spells, quests, random events, tactical combat detail... those came to mind. In particular, I would enjoy more detail in the tactical combat level (terrain impacting combat, flanking bonuses that can be enhanced through unit training/equip, static city/outpost defenses)!

Does Stardock traditionally test the DLC waters with low(er) risk packs like this before allocating larger resources to a project? I would think the players that buy map packs will probably buy content packs as well.

I'm pretty new to the game and forums, so if Frogboy/Stardock has already indicated future plans, apologies. Edit: Nevermind. Just started reading some of the Dev Journals and it is very refreshingly laid out.  :)

I bought it, but I havnt tested it yet. Wonder how many they sell of this DLC?

I bought the map pack right away.

-The large Anthys map is actually quite bare, and not affected by what resources/magic/quest settings to choose. All it does is lengthen the game by increasing travel time between cities.

-It would be nice if Anthys had all of the wildlands available. Why not? There's enough room, and currently the map is very empty.

-It would be nice to have a fixed start location option for the "canon" factions, based on that lore map.

-Wildlands map is fun, but the AI really sucks at it. Once you can handle monsters, you rely on the AI players to present a challenge, this is not often the case.

I still think this is too much money for any DLC that isn't a huge overhaul or adds a lot of new features. I also don't really want pre-made maps to start with. I'm curious, therefore, about the other thing included - the stamps. How do boats work, are they a new stamp I could encounter on a random map?

Please keep patching and releasing DLC for this game.  I will buy if you release.  I just want everything to work perfectly.

Not interrested but I bought it to support Stardock.

Sigh It's not even appaearing for download. This was a waste of money.

I would like an option for cannon starting positions on Anthys considering it is a lore map.

Thank you.

me too.

Does the Anthys map ignore set game settings?  It seems like shards & heroes are both few and far between no matter what I set the map options at.

Also seems like the wild lands don't show properly at times.  I saw both Morain and Torax in areas that looked like they should be wild lands but without borders, without quite the right number of mobs, and without the wild lands quest when I entered the area.

Edit:  Does Anthys not scale for the size difference between it and large?  That might be the cause of the shards & heroes seeming so sparse.  I always play dense everything, but what's dense on a regular sized "large" map wouldn't be the same as what's dense on a 2x "large" map if dense is some fixed value.

Does the Anthys map not have any Wildlands? Am I reading that right? I thought with it being so large there would be quite a few!

That's right, Anthys ignores game settings and has no Wildlands (other than the Master Quest in the middle island.)

Rather disappointing =\
