Symantic reports cursorfx_2.11_setup.exe as a virus. Deletes it

What is up with that?  It says the exe is a WS.Reputation.1 threat.  Refund my money ASAP since you do not replay to my emails.

paul86262, when did you first contact support? You may not be aware that multiple emails regarding the same issue, puts your ticket back at the end of the line. I strongly doubt Stardock would be able to stay in business if it was handing out viruses. It could be a false positive. As far as refunds go, I suggest you read this: https://store.stardock.com/policy.aspx  Good Luck!

Symantec (Norton) is a virus! CursorFX is an awesome program.

, there is nothing whatsoever wrong with CursorFX that you need to fear. Many thousands of people use the free and paid versions everyday. Symantic is overly cautious, bloated to the point of worthless and just plain wrong and is something you should consider replacing.

paul86262:

You are getting a false positive report from your Norton software.

There should be a way to "whitelist" or except CursorFX from it. If there isn't, contact Symantec about the issue. CursorFX isn't a virus, nor does it have one in it if you obtained the program directly from Stardock and not another source.

Upload the setup file to virus total. www.virustotal.com and let over 30 different virus scanning engines have a look and then decide if you still think it contains a virus. I think you will change your mind. Symantic is shit... it told me windows was a virus once lol so i stay away from the hopeless piece of poo. There is NO virus or malware in any stardock software..... Providing you have download from reputable sites. Especially stardock.com. Why would stardock bite themselves in the ass by supplying viruses with software they are trying to make money from??, it just doesn't make sense. That is all :)

paul86262 ...if you downloaded CFX from Stardock's store [as would be assumed] disable your AV and install it.

What Symantec is indicating is called a 'false-positive' and they are one of the worst at getting it wrong.

Their mistakes simply negatively impact upon the reputations of LEGITIMATE software vendors, and it's a practise that really needs to be eliminated through compensation/restitution to the parties impugned.

In other words false-positives should incur some form of penalty.  It's simply sloppy and or slack management of their methodology.

What Jafo said. Do this when your sub to Norton runs out. Go here......www.MalwareBytes.com   and here......www.Microsoft.com, pick up MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials and here......www.Threatfire.com. They are all free, there are of course paid versions, but the free ones do a bang up job. Threatfire works in the background hand in hand with MSE and MalwareBytes which it was designed to do. They all play nice with Stardock products, never a false positive, do a much better job than Norton or McCaffee or any other for that matter. Now if you really want to do it up nice add this to the mix. Head on over to www.IObit.com and pick up Advanced System Care 6, also a freebie, it has a function called Vulnerabilities fix. During the scan it checks for security updates to Windows, downloads and installs them automatically. Try them and see for yourself.

the reputation.ws means that the anti-virus softeare diezn't kniw the new file name/size/pattern. It's stupid and wrong.

All set now (I disabled virus protection and installed CursorFX).  Thanks everyone!

I have had problems signing in at the Stardock website, and I have yet to get a reply to the two emails I sent to support.  But the forum is fine.

I don't know what people's problems are with Symantec.  Thanks to Leo Laporte, I took his advice and installed NOD32 last year.  What a disaster.  I got multiple trojans that took many steps to get rid of. I hardly do much on the Internet.  The company basically said "oh well" and were not supportive whatsoever.  NIS has kept us 100% safe and virus free since then.  No Eset ever again!

If you're looking for payware ... go Bitdefender or Kaspersky.

Norton has had a checquered career...at best...;)

Because it's the weekend and Stardock is closed but I was on my tablet trying to help you out while spending time with my kids and didn't have all the resources readily available.  ;)

Glad all is resolved though.
