One expert said before the reveal that they were concerned about methane gas from decaying bacteria having been trapped inside small atmospheric pockets left in the rover and went on to say this was the most likely explanation.

well NASA rang me the other day requesting my help in discovering the biggest object every seen in the universe, so i gave them my ex wife's address, NASA told me that even they didn't have a telescope big enough to encompass that and for some reason my ex wife wasn't amused, go figure...
