Triglav National Park

A somewhat more diverse ground textures mod.

Hello everyone,

Basically this wasn't really meant as a mod, but it somehow came about because the purple empire terrain was, with all respect to the game devs, just ruining the immersion for me. So I went and raided a couple texture sites (kudos to all the brilliant texture makers there) and played with Photoshop a bit, until I was happy with how the land looked...

The way I see the bad guys is that their surroundings would likely be burned, scorched, volcanic, covered with ash and the trees would be withered and greyish-brown. Probably not everyone's preference, but call me a cliché. However after I've changed that, I wasn't entirely content with the grassy mountains for the good guys, and wanted stone mountains instead. And after that most of the other textures I wasn't entirely happy with, kind of followed.

So now I'm relatively satisfied with the way the map looks. It's a bit more contrasted, varied, less flat and monotonous.

If you'd like to use this pack, just putting it into your Mods/Gfx folder should do the trick. Maybe. I dunno.

This is how it looks now:

If you like it, enjoy.
The pack is entirely available to use or modify for everyone as you see fit. If you want to recolour it, retexture it, etc, feel free and we can post it here...

Increased resolution and textured trees

After Sratner's initial suggestion to texture the trees a bit too, I've increased the tree texture resolution from 256 to 512 and put some leafy details over them.

Whether the increase in filesize (by nearly 4 times) is worth the barely visible detail in game is up to you...

Now trees look somewhat like this:

(The download links may work or not work, depends on what money extraction tactic the download provider is trying to use. Let me know if they again stop working and I'll reupload somewhere else.)

Just had a chance to sit down and try out your mod. It's a striking improvement looks completely at home in the game. It makes features like lairs and resources stand out a lot better against the background as well. It's definitely a mod I would recommend to any FE player to try out.

Just tried it, and liked a lot. I'm going to use it from now

Thanks for sharing

Great work <3

I really love the new fertile mountains. However I dislike the new fallen environment as it seems to be too dark and everything bleeds together.  The mountain also don't stand out like they do for green fertile land. Sorry if am being critical.

it's true, barren mountains don't stand out from adjacent barren hills/plains.

for fallen land I've recommended a hint of yellow/orange :)

Thank you for the positive attitude everyone.

Critical is good.

Too dark/not dark enough is a matter of taste. To me it wasn't dark enough :D
But the idea is, the fallen is volcanic, burnt, ashen. And that equally makes mountains and plains dark and ashen. While the green grass and stone mountains do have own tones as they do in nature.

Still...if you'd like a different tone, the texture is called fallen_mountain.dds, feel free to change brightness and contrast to your liking.

A more orange tone would bring it closer to barren lands. The only unique shade is therefore as is now, or previous purple, or some blueish thing, to make it distinctly different from other terrains. And personally I don't like the fallen to have any colour at all.

I can also confirm that all three of the download links at rapidshare are 'refused by uploader' for some reason,

perhaps it is rapidshare that is blocking due to low downloading counts or there is an upload of a new version happening.

Umm...I didn't refuse the upload, both files are still on Rapidshare and if I click on them they seem to open the DL screen normally.

Nah it's still messing.

mttriglav, the exact error I get(from australia) is

Download not available

Download permission denied by uploader. (0b67c2f5)
this is from the 306/tmp.zip link, the external link and the trees.zip link from the OP.
perhaps it might be worthwhile to upload a second copy to wincustomise or nexus

Apparently it only works for me and messes with everyone else. I have all files marked as public etc. Wants me to pay a subscription prolly, which I am not really willing to...

Uploaded to Mediafire too, try this:

Main files - TNP.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?rn0p886t06f5puj

Trees files - TNPTrees.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4189mx3c1g6n739

All in all, the mod so far registered some 150 downloads.

When these links stop working, let me know and I'll reupload elsewhere. You are also invited to upload somewhere if you like and share here, thank you.

EDIT:
I mailed Rapidshare wtf, and got a reply "With the change of the 16.01.2013 the files owner has to actively give the
permission that files can be downloaded." So files had to be put in a subfolder and the subfolder's "Public access" set.
Now those links should be working for you as well.

Unfortunately I'm far from the skill required for that. As I say in the first post: "I went and raided a couple texture sites (kudos to all the brilliant texture makers there) and played with Photoshop a bit"

I'd recommend to move this to LH modding, it still works and it still makes the game look 10x better

WOW.  Crimsonsgekko, I'd like to thank you for pointing out how well this still looks in LH. I assumed it wouldn't work properly outside of FE, but I'd thoroughly recommend this for LH as well.  In fact, the vanilla graphics look so bland and subpar, it almost looks horrid by comparison after switching back again.

The work here is truly top-notch, and I didn't even notice any performance drop with my mid-range PC.  Any chance of continuing this magnificent work further Mttriglav?

yeah, it actually works great in tandem with the improved LH lighting :D

Hi guys. Glad yer still liking it and it works in LH.

I've only just installed LH now, so I'll play a while then see if some additional work needs to be done. :D

That's wonderful news.  Glad to see you're still with us playing LH!

And make that another who recommends moving this to LH mods.  It's a crime that your fantastic work isn't getting more attention since LH's release.

Thank you, mttriglav, for all your work on this and sharing it with the community.  It's fantastic and I love it.

Notes for users new to using mods for FE (like me) or just a little dense in general (like me).

If you have a normal, default Steam installation, the unzipped file named "TNP" goes in "...\Documents\My Games\LegendaryHeroes\Mods\Gfx" (I put it in "Fallen Enchantress" directory at first by mistake and was surprised at how "subtle" the mod was, haha.  So subtle it was like it wasn't even there, more like.)
If using the tree mod as well copy the unzipped .dds files into the "Trees" folder in "...\Documents\My Games\LegendaryHeroes\Mods\Gfx\TNP\Gfx\HKB\Trees" and overwrite the existing files that were there.

Start Legendary Heroes and select "Use Mods" in the Options.  It will require the game to be restarted.  You will notice the improved terrain immediately.  Grassland, dessert and mountains are all clearly improved.

Play around with the games brightness and contrast setting in the advanced options.  They make a big difference in how much the new tiles pop out.
