[>>Stardock FE Modding Library now up<<]

We've added a section on WinCustomize.zom where modders can upload and manage their FE mods.

If there's sufficient interest (i.e. sufficient content uploaded) we'll integrate the gallery into the game.

I don't have an easy solution.  We need some sort of moderation system. Believe me, you should see the stuff that gets submitted.

Can you hire a few "flex staffers" Brad? A couple few young local talents whose duties are to handle the plethora of unskilled labor needs doing. Things which otherwise pull higher paid talent off critical things. And limits other things. What about a forum ambassador program where one or two SD jokers are frequently on the forums. Engaging with the community, pumping up the buzz and all that, while also gathering information to upload to various SD departments heads.. like marketing might have the forum ambassadors looking for certain things related to enthusiasm and what sort of narrative is developing on the forums. And developers might ask the forum helper to tightly gauge community reactions towards new features or feature suggestions. etc etc A wealth of information in the forums. To get max extraction from community forums, i think there'd need be someone whose job is mostly assigned to that. With a responsibility structured such that they join with other flex staffers on special projects whatnot.

Flex Staff: flexible (wo)man hours on call.  They fill a bunch of little jobs would be nice to get done, but you can't pull man hours from other stations on regular basis. And there is this other thing you'd like to do, but it doesn't amount to enough to even put someone on it part-time. So hire a couple kids and perhaps even develop an internship program. Have them bop around the offices helping as needed. Handling small projects on their own. While doing all sorts of the good work flow minded stuffs : )

Some might even stick around and apply for a long-term job once the schooling and internship program is done. ?

Maybe consider Mechanical Turk (by Amazon) they do Human interaction tasks for whatever price you want to offer.

If the worry is that these mods are content correct rather than having weird stuff in the code itself, why not allow some sort of voting so the community can chose which gets approved? Then you look over those and moderate if needed.

Sort of how in Spore bad submissions could be reported or down voted?

Now, if the actual problem if fear for spy programs in mods and such, then I am at a loss. :S

Most sites these days including steam, nexus and youtube use a "user moderator" system. You just add a report button and let those viewing the site report anything that should not be there. Other than that, a virus scan of all uploaded files would probably be a good idea if the virus program was not known for a lot of false positives. Otherwise it defeats the point of using it.

I've discontinued uploading anything to WC because of the seemingly random wait times for mods to get approved, while some folks have bypassed this approval system.

Ridiculous.

I don't have the technical know-how of installing mods.  I tried a few but i could not figure out how to put them in the exact right place, so i gave up. Hopefully in the future this aspect of gameplay will become more friendly. I had no such issues in Civ4 but Civ5 has this easy-button which has caused me to become stupider about how to do it myself.

I've been voicing concerns on this myself

I am putting together a tutorial for my mod in video format. That should help. Really excited to have a mic now.

does this mean nexus is abandoned?

On the contrary, nexus launched their FE site after this library was put up. Nexus provides a better process for modders, imho.

I like it (nexus) more. I donated. but not everyone is on nexus...

I will be uploading mine on nexus, and if steam workshop becomes an option i will do that too. i haven't posted any on WinCustomize because im too lazy to make an account.

The point of not approving everything instantly is that they can't trust everything that gets uploaded. They need to manually go through it to look for illegal stuff and harmful stuff. I guess Frogboy "trusts" me because I've been modding E:wom/FE for over two years. So really it's a matter of establishing a positive record.

So the reason they don't just approve everything immediately is because they don't want to approve everything immediately.

Win :)
