Dynasties and Sea Travel

Dynasties and Sea Travel

I harp on this about once a week, and I'll continue to do so until they're put back in the game.  It's like this: how would you feel if you were looking forward to buying a game with features x, y and z, you waited for months for said game to come out because x, y and z were promised, and you enjoyed x, y and z when the game was released.  Then one day, out of the blue, you download a patch and features x, y and z no long exist.  Would that piss you off?  You purchase something with some great features that you love and all of a sudden you get the bait-and-switch.

I purchased WoM in large part because of the dynasty and ship systems.  The game had those features for quite some time, and then one day they were scrapped.  They disappeared.  That's bullshit.  It's one thing to release a game and later do some balancing and stamp out bugs, it's quite another thing entirely to just cut out entire features of the game that your customer expected and paid for, completely without warning.

Here's the thing, I don't give a damn if they have no quantifiable effect on game-play.  They are fun.  Period.  When I order a burger and fries and it comes with a free toy I don't scream at the guy in the window to take the toy out of the happy meal because it comes with something extra.  Maybe the guy waiting behind you actually wants that free toy.  If YOU don't like dynasties and sea travel, don't use them, it's no skin off your back.  But don't tell me that I should have my free toy removed because you don't like it.

And honestly, I don't care if the AI can't make use of them.  If these two features were put back into the game just the way they were before they removed from WoM, I'd be 100% fine with that.  The reviews are out, the game has been given a unanimous thumbs up by the gaming mainstream media, now it's time to please those of us who got screwed by having these removed in the first place.  I mean, for goodness sake, there is a gigantic ship in the game's desktop wallpaper.  A little bit of false advertising there, you think?

Put them back in Stardock.

Quoting ins2, reply 39My man, I think you are losing credibility fast...

If your purpose is to enjoy dynasties in your game, read reply #32 and just do that - it takes 3 seconds.

If your purpose is to troll about the game, then you are 100% on target...

There are many things I would also like changed in the game (balance issues, the ability to snake cities to rivers and build piers etc.) but I spent the time, found the fix, and implemented it...

Considering I haven't had a single person actually confirm this works, I think you're losing credibility.  Throwing out a one-liner xml entry and then calling me a troll for not believing in it 125% is a little absurd, dont you think?

ok little guy, here you are: i have used this xml entry and I confirm that it works, and that the 2 people who foolishly tried to help you by "throwing out a one-liner xml entry" were being honest !!!

happy now?

ps. I am still trying to figure out whether you are willfully ungrateful or just paranoid...

Awesome.  Thank you.  I had no idea that's all it took to get them back in the game exactly like they were in WoM.  That should be a sticky post so we don't have to go through another thread like this again.  I'm sure there are lots and lots of people that don't know that.

Now...about those ships...

Just an FYI, this doesn't work.  Yeah, you get the little button to "Propose" to a champion, but it's extremely buggy, can't have children much less get a menu for it.

So, yeah, all you guys suggesting this and that I should "trust" you were full of it.

As far as Dynasties and balance are concerned: I agree with the people who don't want their heroes to die of old age (or period), but I also agree that it would be necessary to implement. I agree it should be an option ("A game is a series of interesting choices." - Sid Meier), an alternate game mode, and that it should explain itself fully in the selection screen so that the player can make an informed decision. Personally, I like the idea of Dynasties, and feel they bring more life to the game. However, there will be times I get sick of my sovereign dying, and play the other game mode. Simple.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.  Very well written and explained.

Just watched this modding video and while Brad is going through the various map tools he mentions, "The beach tool, you need if you're going to put in any boats on your maps, because you can only get on and off boats at cliffs".  (I think he meant to say beaches not cliffs at the end there).

The campaign(scenario) has a boat in it already. Just a transport ship, but still a boat.

I can understand how ships would make the game feel more realistic, but i would not miss them if they were never in the game.

Dynasties on the other hand, this is potentially a very large plus to the game.

Some ideas;

It would be good if the player can have more of an ability to influence generational development of characters.

Let the sovereigns have a few more offspring - their magical, it makes them live thousands of years! But the extra offspring from the older sovereigns will have more extreme random attributes. Make it so the player can have a reasonably good chance to get something unexpected and 'interesting' in order to spice up peoples interest in dynasties.

You have to let Hero's marry in every generation, not just the sovereign. This will help to diversify the perks of offspring more. But offspring that come of age cannot immediately marry hero's, in order to help factional marriages.

Just so the AI dynasty doesn't get left behind, lets have 'cheating'! Occasionally an AI sovereign or offspring will appear with some of your sovereign or offspring attributes! Or take it even further and have an espionage 'cheating' action so you can get some of those wonderful looking opponents perks!!

At least one person in this thread has said that you can mod it back in but that it was buggy and incomplete.  Stop being such a dick to people who are trying to help you despite the fact that you're an entitled whiny little brat that doesn't deserve help.

What ever happened to marrying a hot character solely for the RP aspect? Thats why I like the idea of dynasties since I get the chance to get a nice spouse but the idea of dying of old age does not appeal to me at all....

Still wishing I could marry other sovs.... Im determined to make the fallen enchantress "fall" for me :D ;) Ok thats enough with the bad jokes.
