Champion permadeath toggle

Can we have that as a setting? I know that some people like the idea of immortal champs, others hate it. If we have this as an option when setting up a custom game, everyone should be happy. The current setup (immortal with injuries) can remain the default, but we should be able to turn it off and enable permadeath.

Thanks!

+1 to this.  I play without saving and would also like the option of remaining dead.

I agree.

Not sure exactly how many injuries a Champion can receive before they become worse than useless, but having the fear of death would make the battles much more tense.

Yeah, I agree. Permadeaths for champions as an option would be great (I would like this ironman mode!!)

Even just a couple settings in ElementalDefs would be wonderful. k1

I'll add that turning champions off completely in the world creation options makes for a wonderful game; I actually haven't played with them in a while.

They come in handy for the Steal Spirit spell.

I might be wrong in thinking this, but permadeath of champions seems like something that would help the player and hurt the AI the most.  The AI is not quite as capable of being as protective with them as I am.  But, toggle means choice to turn on or off, so I am always for more options.

After half a dozen deaths or so, the champ oftentimes becomes more of a liability than an asset.

It changes the essence of the game entirely when sovereigns are the only beings of power in the world.  Not only do they feel more important, but troops become much more useful as well.  It also makes the unique play style of each faction really stand out.  Meeting another sov in battle feels epic, and getting one to surrender is truly a feat.

What I'd like the most is have the permadeath after a number of wounds - say 6th wound means death. AIs champions are anyway very week after a number of suffered wounds.

You are probably right.

Or make it an increasing chance of pernadeath with each injury - would be a good compromise.

First injury - 5% chance of permadeath

Second injury - (+10)   15% chance of permadeath

Third - (+15)  30% chance of permadeath

Fouth - (+20) 50% chance of permadeath

Fifth - (+25)  75% chance of permadeath

(numbers can be adjusted - just using those as an example)

So every defeat is worrisome - will he die or survive??. If the champion has made it through 4 defeats - maybe leave him at home...  :-)

**Edit ** - of course racial type/traits could move those percentages up/down

Injuries in champions is, IMO, a controversial feature. On one hand, it seems a price to pay to justify their immortality. On the other hand, it doesn't matter if a hero dies, or takes an injury (and loses the XP), because many people will just load a savegame...who wants those red blurs?

But suposing you don't, as it is stated, getting more and more injuries makes them so crippled that may get useless for the rest of the game...You can always use the "Stealth Spirit" spell as a way to end their suffering.... And it is sad to see an enemy hero with many injuries too...

So, my suggestions are:

- Permadeath toggle. Each player decide for each game if using the injuries system or permanent death ...

- An accesible way to heal injuries at an affordable cost (a potion, a scroll,...). For example, after building the Herbalist, it could be available at the shop. It is said there is a potion or something that heals injuries, but I never saw it.

- Time duration for injuries. For example, 20+ (level of hero) turns. After it, they heal...This could allow some people (me included) to accept injuries, instead of loading a save.

- A variation of the previous one: Each turn, a hero has a +1% of healing an injury. So after a certain number of turns, the injuries will heal. It would be so nice to receive a pop up saying: "Your Hero XXX has healed his gangrene hand".... I really like this...

- Scaling injuries. For example, I, II and III (light, moderate and severe injury). First injury makes a little loss, like the -1 initiative injury. Or 5% lost HP (instead of 10%). So it gives not so much pain to play an injured hero. But, each one gives a chance of next injury to be a more severe version (like -2 initiative, -10% HP, and so). Getting a severe injury could here add a % of permadeath too...

- A combination of the 2 previous: scaling injuries, and a % of healing over time...so a severe injury may go to moderate, then to light....

I mean, isn't it a World of Magic? Then, why injuries are so permanent? Give us a real hope to heal them...

You could modify the number of turns a hero is incapacitated to a very VERY high number.

elementaldef.xml

<ReviveSovereignImmobilizationDuration>5</ReviveSovereignImmobilizationDuration>

Set that number to say.... 500 and that will be more of a permadeath that you are looking for. Sure their spirit lives on in the city.

10000% agree. I absolutly hate Immortal Champs.

I would perfer a system where you had perma death but had spells that raise the dead.  And you could have different type of raise dead spells. Lower level ones my give one or two wounds for so many turns (or until healed) And higher level ones would heal everything.  They spells couls come has normal spells, Abilities, in Magic items etc.   And would be much better than current system.

If we wanted to stick with no random chance of death, I'd like to have more options to "retire" them beyond ripping the soul out and leaving a corpse. Maybe as a permanent fixture in a city in order to provide bonuses to units trained.

I did a mod a bit back that adds permadeath to champions. If someone's interested I'm sure you can update it for 1.00. https://forums.elementalgame.com/428191
