How About More Minor Race Interaction and Complex Morals...

When I saw the diplomat system reguarding the minor races, I was a little let down. I was expecting to be able to annex them into my empire peacefully.

Do you think this would be a good addition? Could somebody make a mod for this? Maybe make getting the minors to join you about the same as getting a major race to ally with you?

Any comments?

And, also, I think that there should be a bit more complex morality system. I think that there should be a penalty if you declare outright war on another race for no reason. Also, what about using gas warfare? How about for not declaring war with your ally? This is a little off topic, but shouldn't there be penalties for breaking treaties and stuff as well? It'd make the A.I. a little less erratic, maybe...

Ideas?

Interesting . . . you offcourse can Ally with the minors but combining with them . . . mmm, well you can flip them I guess (I think). I kinda like them as they are independent . . . they're my gravy train!

I totally agree with you about the morality issues though, although not so much in a penalty sense but rather that a 'trustworthness' scale needs to be worked into it somehow? I don't know what the solution would entail . . . :p

You can flip minors, Cotal. Alexians in particular. That's a thread on flipping minors in the strat forum.

I'm not talking about you becoming so culturally superior (which takes awhile), I'm talking about negotiating them joining your empire.

Maybe you'd have to get them to like you enough then one of the optoins could be "Join". When they did, a little message could pop up saying "Blah blah has joined your empire". Peacefully, no war, they just become part of you.

Diplomatic annexation (EU2)?

Interesting concept.

EU2 style diplomatic annexation would be an interesting concept indeed.

OTH Birth of the Federation style (how much is that planet in window) annexation would detract from the game I think.

I think the process of annexation would be far more important than whether or not one could annex. Any annexation needs to be more than merely a question of a big empire throwing money at a little empire until it joins.

I am not sure what the answer is. Perhaps it could involve
- having multiple trade routes for a prolonged period of time, (yeah, you lose the diplomatic benefits of trading with other majors)
- gifts of money and tech,
- substantial support in wars or direct intervention in those wars,
- swapping/purchases of techs and trade goods
- absolutely no bullying of the Minor
- all of the above followed by an alliance for a sustained period of time to show your willingness to support the minor (whilst continuing all of the above without interruption)
- maybe morality should come into it?? (ie. who wants to join an evil empire?)
- maybe peacefulness should come into it?? (ie. who wants to join an empire that is always starting wars?)

I agree with Peter. All your suggestions where great - the only one I'd throw out is the trading with them. While it seems more realistic that you should have to at least trade with them, the way GalCiv is set up, it'd hamper gameplay. Maybe if routes weren't limited or something, but I think making the play waste a trade route and give up improved income and relations would be too much.

Otherwise, everything else seems in synch with the game. Devs - anything? Modders - possible?
