[CRASH] Tutorial

Crashed during the tutorial. During the part where they want me to explore east while waiting for the pioneer to train. I clicked my unit a few times toward the east, the graphics got all weird, and the game crashed out.

Unfortunate, because I was liking what I saw so far. :(

There was no zip located in the ProgramData that I could find, but here is a link to my debug.err paste http://pastebin.com/jGy6ft2d

Well, I made another go at the tutorial from the beginning. During that same part (walking east though the woods) I had the game freeze up on me.

can you post a screenshot of where exactly you are moving when it crashes?  have never seen this before...

Same exact thing here.  It consistently happens when you try to move your sovereign onto the iron deposit.

Made another go of it and got the result above. It crashed during the turn change immediately after moving east from the iron mine onto the hill next to it.

In my case, at approximately the same time as Cymsdale, the game crashes during the turn when the first pioneer has been created, very early in the tutorial. Moving the mouse cursor from my sovereign to the city crashed the game and trashed my computer by forcing it to execute a catastrophic reboot! This has happened the two times I have tried the tutorial, on the turn when the pioneer was created.

My system has a Radeon HD 5870 card, with the most recent drivers. No other game that I have been playing on that computer for the past 2½ years has forced my system to reboot. As an example, I can tell you that I have been playing at "Warlock : Master of the Arcane" for over 965 hours (according to Steam), for the past six months, and it has never crashed! I play it in windowed mode, as is the case with the FE tutorial, with no multitasking with other programs which might create a conflict. A game that forces my computer to reboot is not one that I will risk playing, especially when there is a very stable one available in the very same genre.

What I found strange, the two times I tried the tutorial, is that I could not find the pioneer unit. I got the message that the pioneer had been produced, but I could not find it : it was not next to my city, and only the sovereign appeared in the unit list (top left). The two times the computer crashed occurred when I was moving the mouse cursor to search for that pioneer. It was perhaps somewhere, but the crashes did not give me the time to find it. If there is a bug which crashes the game because the announced unit is not effectively there, I do not understand why such a bug would cause my whole computer to abruptly reboot.

I am going back to W:MotA, and I will retry FE's tutorial after the game has been patched. I am sorry to have to say that I do not have the time and interest to playtest a game which causes a catastrophic reboot of my usually problem-free computer.

I will try to reproduce this in house by repeating the steps you have laid out here, if i can we should be able to fix it... thanks

Exactly the same thing here.

Had a couple more goes at the tutorial and the crash only (but consistently) happens if I move parallel to or east of the iron deposit.

Avoided moving east until the pioneer was built (and the objective of building the mine came up) and I was able to play through the whole tutorial.

we haven't been able to reproduce this in house... can you take a video of what's happening or something? http://www.fraps.com/ is a free utility you can use to capture game video (could upload to youtube or wherever).

Or perhaps even more specific info about the situation?  when are you moving your sovereign there? is it the sovereign alone? is something else going on at the same time?

Had the same happen to me, I suspect it's when your pioneer is finished, I think you are supposed to get a new tutorial window, but that has some error in it and it crashes the game. Consistently (3 times).

where is your sovereign standing when the pioneer finishes? what else is happening?

The tutorial is so short as to be disappointing.

Instead start a normal game and go to Options/General and activate the "tutorial Popups".  Then the popups will occur every time you do something new.

She's 3 or 4 or 2 steps away from the Inn.

As far as I can tell nothing else is happening.

Sometimes I quickly see a completely garbled up window appear before it crashes.

Anyway, played the regular game and there's no similar issue there (although there are some things I've noticed I assume will get straightened out soon).

I guess this didn't happen. Just bought, downloaded, installed, started the tutorial, and got right to where other people have before the game froze. About 2 grid squares due west of the iron mine that pops up while you're building a pioneer.

The second time I moved the hero one square instead of clicking further ahead, and upon moving the one square, the pioneer was built and I got the output popups/etc.

We are putting out a fix for this issue today.  Thanks to everyone for letting us know about it and helping us troubleshoot.
