Fallen Enchantress Editor

I've shared the FE Editor below.  It is what I use to manage the assets of the game and it makes it very easy to view, compare and tweak the xml in the game.  Not all of the XML in Fallen Enchantress is included in the editor, just the things I most commonly update.  It also contains some modeling data that helps us balance or review changes without having to play a 100 games to see what the difference was.

I'm releasing it here for modders so that they can use it to more easily add/remove and change assets in their mods.  Each sheet has a export button in the upper left that creates the xml file with all the spreadsheets data in whatever directory the editor is in.

The editor is released 'as is'.  It's an internal tool we are sharing, have fun.

Using & Sharing your mods:

When you export your creations, it'll place it in the root of the Fallen Enchantress directory (program files(x86)\stardock\fallen enchantress).  File examples would be coreweapons.xml, coreunits.xml, etc.

Depending on what you did, here is how you use them:

Scenario 1: If you are overwriting existing weapons or units:  Replace the existing file in the data\english directory with your new one.

Scenario 2: If you have created new items (like new quests or goodie huts or armor) then open the file in a text editor, find the new items and create a new XML file with just those new items in it and place it in your my games\fallen enchantress\mods directory and make sure you have "use mods" selected in the options menu. That file can be shared with other players.

And on that day, Paxton descended from Mount Sinai with the laws of man etched in stone. And it was called the Elemental Editor!

Will you include a tutorial for the editor for stupid people like myself? ._.

This is a very nice tool.  I will hopefully be able to complete some interesting mods with this.  I bow in the presence of awesomeness.

Simply amazing what you have been able to do with just excel. Thanks for sharing!

lol Sean. This is pure awesome, I know you modders have been wanting to get your hands on this awhile. I may even play around with it, like giving your 16 year old drunk kid keys to the Ferrari.

You gotta learn how to drive some time.

I can't even play right now, I am too busy playing with the editor. I need to update all the values. So many wonderful values.

i know what sean is gonna do for the next week or do, i wonder how big his mod will get lol...

I can do everything so much faster now. And I can set up some charts to show min and max damage for every change I make. I have such a better time figuring out the right encumbrance numbers now. I'll give you a hint: Master Chain now does the work of chain at the weight of leather.

Is there any way to upload one of my files or abilities into the editor?

If that doesn't work, I would try using Open Office. It may be compatible.

It's not.

That would be cool. Anyone excel/macros literate?

I can't use it. I only have Office 2003 and it won't recognize it.

sorry, that was the first version of excel to support more than 256 collums (my ipad wants to change that to "scowl lumps", yes apple i think I will prefer being a bad speller than a babbling idiot, some days I'm both). So I needed it for the editor and that keeps me from back porting it to otheversions that don't support it.

as for importing.  Yes you can import XML directly into excel in the data tab.  You may have to massage it a bit one you get it in but it should do 90% of the work for you.

I will try some more. Right now I can get the actual text to go into a worksheet, but I can't get any semblance of format. It's not obvious how to get the xml to go into the boxes. Maybe when you have some relatively free time you could give me a quick how-to?

Maybe the problem is that all it gives me is a text data option. Is there an XML one too?

Best part about this editor: You can mess around with it at work and totally look "productive" :).

I found some help from within the excel help. I will post about it if anyone is interested.

[Edit] Got the XML format, but the data is not importing the way I want. Still getting everything going into standard cells, instead of the unique ones Derek set up. Not sure how I can get it to do that. Oh well. I will just have to do it the old fashion way. Edit the new stuff to line up with my data in text compare. Still can use the editor for making balance calculations. I'll post about that in the proper thread.

It may even make you better at your day job.  I didn't know what flookup was until I made the fall from heaven editor.

How does one perform their daily job without flookup?!

(I actually don't know about flookup; probably should check that out; assume it's short for function lookup)
