Downloaded from Steam - game not running

I recently bought a new computer and tried to install GC2 from the CDs, but realized that it wouldn't work on Windows 7.  I then downloaded the game from Steam, however it still isn't working.  I don't get an error message or anything.  What happens is when I try to start the game, the screen will flash 4 times and then a large portion of the screen will stay black.  The game icon appears in the task bar, but I am still in Windows mode and can click on things on my desktop.  I then have to open the task manager to shut the game off, at which point it tells me that it isn't responding.  I have the latest drivers.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?  I tried to contact Steam, but they are being unresponsive.  Here are specs...

Thanks.

I hope this isn't obvious, but in your description you do not mention uninstalling the CD version of GC2.  The installations are different enough between Steam and CD that I would expect that Steam might not do a clean uninstall for you.  If you manually uninstall GC2 until Windows is satisfied neither version exists, then Steam might be able to do a clean download and install for you.

Exact same problem here on an Intel 980 extreme 6 core with NVidia gtx 570 with perfectly up to date drivers. On another game that had this problem, at least the flash on the screen came every 5 secs or so, then I was able to set the res to a 1080P res and it worked fine.  But like you, It stays black after the first second. It's like they can't get the refresh rate right or something.  I should know better than buying these indy games when they go on sale at Steam.

Turn Fullscreen off (if you haven't already).  You should see the same performance from GC2 in its borderless window, but it may help with the flickering.

mydocuments/mygames/GC2twilightarnor/prefs    I discovered that my display width and height were very high so I set them here to 1024 x 768... doing that corrected a very similar problem. Hope that helped.
