What good is religion?

Who is it really good for?

Well I suppose it all matters on what religion is being considered and who is doing the considering. Most religions care little about most other religions why should they … it is no concern of theirs and has ho influence in their lives. I have found that most church doors are open to anyone who desires to enter. There are no main stream religions that cannot be easily investigated on the internet (the worldwide internet) because there is an overabundance of information available. If you want to become a catholic, protestant or even Mormon, it is all there and available 24*7 … pro and con. As far as I know religious folk can peddle their wares wherever they like on whatever medium they want to use so pardon me if I am confused with all the denial of ‘freedom of religion’ brouhaha seemingly going viral.

Back to the question; If you are a member of say one of the monotheistic religions the answer is quite simple; everyone else in the entire world is dysfunctional because we [they] and only them [they] know the truth because their god says so in some old book they do not even know who wrote. I just cannot in the interests of fairness see what one has to offer at all that the other ones don’t offer too … and for precisely the exact same reasons, for the exact same god, with the exact same bigotry and using the exact same nonsense. What in the world is a poor girl supposed to do … just draw straws, I think not.

Now none of these religions in all their compassion and love for their fellows has any consideration at all for those they would convert. They are not in the least interested where or to whom anyone else is born. No consideration for their beliefs, culture, loves, wants or even their desires. Everything that has given people purpose and meaning in their life must be destroyed or the conversion is incomplete. At what point does one need to have their life converted into someone else’s idea of life. People are perfectly capable of making such decisions on their own especially if left to their own. But we just cannot have that can we, go figure? Well none of this shit makes much to me so let’s see if someone else can shed some light on this bickering nonsense.

Every discussion on the morality issue goes something like this; “The (MY) bible is the only real compass we (THEY) have”, but is that true though??? Considering we are talking religion in just about all cases and NOT god, the answer should be self-evident. Being an atheist makes this difficult so I will stumble through it as best I can. If I were to take the responsibility of allowing myself to believe in some deity as the explanation for everything I do not know and be willing to bet my life on it, I wouldn’t know how (or why) to pick and choose the REAL moral issues of this deity as ‘plainly stated’ (as only a nursery rhyme can) in the book, this deity’s mind in black and white without any options or excuses available. It is a simple fact that somehow all the gods throughout history believed exactly what the supporters of said gods think, nothing more and nothing less. How does this perverted view allow adherents to pick and choose what they themselves have been preaching as the infallible word for thousands of years (except for Mormonism of course). What good is a religion to me that is untrue to itself?

If religion is based on a lie, what good is it as any kind of moral compass? If you actually believe that the earth is 6,000 years old and that Adam and Eve were created from dirt at that time ... then you are dissociated from reality. Do we have all the answers, of course we don't why that would make us gods. But we know plenty of things that prove the world to be `4.5 billion years old and Adam and Eve weren't there ... so there was no original sin and no use for the rest of the bible considering what they have been saying for a couple thousand years now.

What good can christianity be if it is not true and only touted as unquestionable truth?

Ok christianity in a nutshell then. YHVY the walking, talking real (in body) male god of the bible sent himself down to the center of the universe the planet earth to sacrifice himself to himself because bleeding on a cross was the only way for him to convince himself to forgive an ancestor of ours who was made from a rib of the man and that she ate a magic fruit which she wasn’t supposed to eat after being tricked by a talking snake ... 6,000 years ago. And all those who do not hold this to be the absolute truth will be tortured forever and ever by the very god that loves us all. Not my cup of tea and all one has to do is read the bible for themselves. That is just the beginning ... there is more.
