Is there something with the most recent patch that does not allow -Localdataonly to work? I have changed many values to attempt things here and there and they are not taking. Any help appreciated thanks guys.

On the contrary, the game now reads core xml by default. localdataonly is no longer necessary.
OK I checked my CoreAbilities and made sure the changes I made were still there. I checked to make sure the shortcut I was using no longer has the -LocalDataOnly, I then booted up the game and no changes compared to the base game data were there. I tried a direct (non shortcut) boot of the game and no dice there as well, finally I tried enabling Mods with nothing in the mods folder in My Documents and still no changes. Any guesses as to why its not taking the changes?
Using an old game instead of starting a new? Misunderstood what the xml does?
do you have the copy in the same folder?
it happened to me too and frogboy explained it later in another post
i renamed original file like coreblablaoriginal983.xml or similar
but the game read all files anyway so you cant have the copies there
I figure its best to explain what I am attempting to do to give a more exact reason as to my line of thinking.
I am attempting to set it up that you can not choose any magic books on creation of a Sov only secondary bonuses. Then I want to set it up to make it that you choose which Path of so and so you choose at level 2. With the choice of Path of the Mage I would have it unlock the 4 base elements, and have Path of Defender unlock Life/Death. For some reason I can not get the costs to increase to the point of not being able to select any books of Magic. I also limited in the Elemental Defs Customization points to 2 so you can only choose 2 secondaries and a 3rd if you take a weakness. Eventually once I learn the secondaries well enough I was hoping to set up the base non Path Specific Abilites for choice at Sov Creation as apposed to the ones that are there that fall under a Path. Eventually further beyond that I want to do the same for the various NPC's that are recruitable. The final idea is that your secondary skills sort of define what your personality for that character is like and then depending on the circumstances of your starting area you can choose which path your sov takes as his/her path.
I was able to do this with the last patch using the -localdataonly to a small degree I could limit to not be able to choose the spellbooks and modified the sov custom points to 2 but now it doesn't take. I have not yet been able to get the various spellbooks to unlock when Path of Mage and the Life/Death books to unlock when defender is chosen.
Anywho this is what I am attempting.
All the files are the original files that I have been modifying. So no extra files in the mix at all.
I would recommend you try something very simple just ot test if the core xml is being read right. Such as changing Relias' name.
No luck, it would appear that something is wrong with the core game itself on reading core files. My guess is I will have to uninstall and do a clean install then try modding the files again. Oh well Thanks for the attempted help going to re download the newest version of the client then wipe and reinstall.
well whatever client is reading files somewhere
maybe make a search on your HD to spot some copy, remove all mod dir etc
Nothing, I am just uninstalling and re installing then will attempt this again. Thanks for the effort. I am abusing the schools internet so already re downloaded the client again. Cleaning up the hard drive and then will re install.
Post back here to let me know if that worked out for you. I have the same problem. I tried editing coreunits.xml to change relias' name with no luck.
Reinstalling it fixed it. I will keep plugging away. Thanks for the help.
