Why are there two Curgen's Hammer in the game? [fixed]

This has been bugging me for some time now. The Hammer is the signature weapon of the Dread Lord Curgen. It is unique. So, why is it possible to get two? One as the price for winning the last battle in the Arena quest and another during the Master Quest. This is like having two THE ONE RING in Lord of the Rings or two Frostmournes in WarCraft.

Cause Curgen dual-wielded hammers, duh

Curgen's Hammer is a two-handed weapon. Still, nice try. ;)

Yeah. For your puny hands. Curgen was a TITAN.

For a puny guy like my sovereign, maybe.  For the mighty Curgen, no :-)

Titans look exactly like humans. They are just more powerful.

point very well taken. There should be another epic quest made just to offset the duplication of this one magical item.

XD

Why do I have the feeling again, that nobody is taking me seriously? :(

Okay, maybe I just didn't express myself properly. There is a reason why Curgen's Hammer is part of the Master Quest. It has significance to the plot. You learn about the Hammer (it's really a maul and not a hammer) and it's original owner and creator and why you need it to open the gate. When you finally acquire it, you know, that you not only have a powerful artifact in your hands, but also a piece of Elementals history.

Not so much with the Arena quest. The Hammer just happens to be the grand prize for defeating a couple Obsidian Golems. Why? No reason, it just is. If you don't know who Curgen was, you probably won't care about the historical significance of the weapon, only about its performance in combat.

In my first beta game, I happened upon the Arena and beat the Obsidian Golems. I was awed by the weapon, because I read the Hiergamemnon, that came with the LE of E:WoM, and knew who Curgen was. It was like having Grond, the mace of Morgoth (Sauron's old master), in my hand. Well, the Overpower ability of the Hammer might also have something to do with it. It really is a devastating weapon against armies. Later I went on the Master Quest and when I learned, that I needed the Hammer to open the Black Gate, I thought: "I already have Curgen's Hammer. Can I go back to the Gate now?...No? Fine. Whatever." This pretty much robbed the Hammer of any significance and felt just weird considering the plot.

The possibility of getting the Hammer twice made no sense to me back then and it still doesn't. What makes something unique is the fact, that there is only one like it in the world. If there are two, it is no longer unique. In this case, it makes no sense, that you can get Curgen's Hammer as a prize at the Arena. It could have been any other powerful weapon and it would have made no difference.

Hmmm Meaby I should pay more attention to the details in the master quest next time :P

And now that you're explaining it sounds like it would be more awesome story-wise to have another reward as the arena prize, (I remember in an earlier beta it being the ability to research masterwork stuff in the tech tree)

I would not mind lore-wise that there would be 2 Curgen's hammers though, since this would state lore-wise that he was able to dual wield huge hammers for example.

I heard you and happily agree.

One of two things will happen:

Either Stardock will release the game as is, two hammers are a reality.

Else, they already have a quest in waiting and the hammer will be swapped out before release. (just to keep us beta testers on edge).

I'm hoping it's the later, but you never know...

You are 100% and I agree with you.  But the joke was too good not to make. I'm immature, sue me.

Yes, the arena needs another reward.  On the other hand, I have never completed it.  I let the champion live the first time, because my sovereign was a good guy.  Once I knew the champion, I felt that he was worth more than any other reward... and I guess I was right - the hammer is nice, but the champion is nicer.

Wizards- the universal scape goat. Now we know why FE is in a fantasy realm- to give the devs something to blame! ;)
