[.981 Bug] Something is very amiss with the slow spell

I just fought Torax one of the elemental lords.  He looked very powerful: 1000 hitpoints, 50+ attack, about 90+ defense.  Plenty of scary abilities, I thought I was up for a good fight.  I cast slow on him, after that, he never got a turn.  Is this some sort of bug to do with the number of shards I've got?

Here is the save game:

I've noticed it in other battles where I've cast slow as well, seems like the foes never really get another turn, unless they have a very high initiative.

It is not a bug. It is a feature :) The scaling of all spells is too strong at the moment.

I hope not! Being able to kill an elemental lord without him lifting a finger should not be a feature :)

its a bug, the basic initiative of many bosses is the old value so its too low for the actual game

This is why base initiative should be 100, not 20.

Slow is being severely reduced in next patch, so try to be patient
It will be lowered to -3 initiative, and an additional -1 per water shard as far as I could tell from the current patchnotes, I don't think this is for certain since they might decide its a little too little.

I personally would like to see the minimum initiative be slightly higher (2 or 3) instead of 1, since 1 initiative only gives half the amount of turns than 2, so the last 1 debuff is so powerful).

No matter what the buff is, there has to be a limit.  A monster's inititiative shouldn't go so low that they never get a turn, which seemed to be the case with Torax.  I think his initiative must have gone down to 0.

There is a minimum of 1, which means if you have 18 initiative against an opponent with 1 initiative, you will have 18 turns every time he have 1 turn.

Elemental Lords are intentionally slow.  They are supposed to give the player lots of time to act before they go, but when they go bad things happen.  (so the 12 base init is intentional).

But, being able to slow them to 1 init (that's the floor right now) isn't intended.  I'm raising the floor for the lowest possible init from 1 to 5.

Thanks for the feedback.

Took my own solution right out of my mouth Derek.  I was actually thinking of making the floor 10, which still allows 3 attacks for every 1 for a hero with 30 initiative (extremely easy to get with haste).  At a floor of 5 initiative, it's 6 attacks for every 1 at 30:5 initiative ratio, which still feels quite high.  Imagine 6 champions with 6:1 ratio; that means 36 attacks for every 1 Torax attack.  I'm not sure his strength makes up for this, but it's up to you to decide where the limit should be.

He's got bugger all movement to, right?

I would prefer to see slow changed to a cold damage over time spell that had a static reduction on initiative (-25%) and a scaling amount of damage based on shards and/or level.

Interesting idea, but it doesn't really fit with the slow spell.  I wouldn't mind seeing it as a new level 3 water spell, though.
