Still boots to metro start screen

PC still boots to metro ui when started or restarted. I unchecked and rechecked the setting to skip the metro start screen but still the same result. Am I doing something wrong? Or does it only work when coming out of sleep or hibernation?

Any help appreciated.

I have the same problem - sometimes. I've only seen the problem on cold start. I suspect it's an issue with how quickly the PC boots vs. how quickly Start8 starts. When I just log out and back in after the PC is already started, it goes to the desktop every time. I did note that Task Manager shows Start8 as a high impact on start-up. I'm not sure, but it looks like W8 may be delaying the start of some apps to speed the screen display.

I've also noticed that the Start button for Start8 will not display (again sometimes but only with cold boot). As above, if I log out and back in the start button displays. The start buttons functions are all there even if it doesn't display. I just have to click on the 'empty' space.

Are you using the flag option or a custom image?  Assuming you use the flag does the background area show a mouseover / pressed darken effect still when the image is missing?

To update: The issue occurs using the latest build on Windows 8 RTM; an upgrade over Windows 7. Also; it happens only on restarts. Works fine coming out of sleep or hibernate.

However; on a clean install of Win 8 RTM on a different pc; Start 8 works as expected; that is right to the desktop on restart.
