I really don't like the new tax system but can't figure out how to revert back

Is it hardcoded? Am I just going to have to live with it? I can't figure out how to change it in the coreresources or cityesourcedefs files

Try setting this to 0 in CorePlayerAbilities.xml

 <PlayerAbilityType InternalName="A_Additive_GoldTakeAwayPerTaxPercentage">
    <DisplayName>Base Gold Take-away from Taxes</DisplayName>
    <Description>Percentage of gold harvest kept for each percentage of tax.</Description>
    <Icon>Icon_Level.png</Icon>
    <DefaultValue>1</DefaultValue>
  </PlayerAbilityType>

You mean before the change? No, I managed on income from monster fights and selling items right up until the "mid-game" when it becomes beneficial to start rushing slow-developing cities. Then I'd usually bump it up to "low" but never above that.

yes thats pretty much it

so i think in general money was unbalanced on the maintenance part of the system

even though mid end game there are so many expensive things to buy and champions to hire

basically this game is so much different from every other management game because you need to keep a balance even for the first part of the game (like every other civ or so ) but you need to increase greatly the income as the game progress (while in civ and similar you usually just want a net balance, maybe you raise research happyness and other stuff but you dont want to start accumulating money, usually)

this is slightly harder to balance

It usually pays off to build unrest reduction improvements. If you can get a Prison that's even better for your gildar income.

I haven't played much with the new build so I can't comment on it.

Yeah not looking like it's possible, oh well.
