I think you will find the version of WindowFX that works on Windows 8 is 5.1 not 5.01.

You know, this is kinda' amazing. With all this research and devolopment going on, Win8 may turn out to be quite useful thanks to Stardock. DANG !!! and I was sooooo deadset on NOT venturing into that territory. Does that make me wishy-washy ??  :\                   -- Ace --

As expected. One more reason not to look ahead, but backwards.

CursorFX Plus (Cursor disappears on metro....use CTRL + shift + C to disable CFX temporarily. Do the same to re-enable.)

Thanks for that tip I hate using the default cursor

EDIT: DesktopX Pro 3.5 worked on the Windows 8 eval. Not working on Windows 8 Pro.  :'(

As W8 is the norm Stardock loses at least one faithful client (been since OS/2) No way in hell i am going to install the MS cash machine. I can understand MS is frantically looking to retain their 30.000% profit margin but in the (finally) changing world that is going to be impossible.

So they put their beady eye on the successes of Apple and Google stores and want a piece of that action. Since they are proprietary they'll go the Apple route, and add to it that only MS store installed programs will function giving them total control over what you install and what you pay.

W8 is the first step. W9 will be the next. Till enough sheeple jumped onboard to exercise le coup de grace and take out the possibility of installing unapproved (by MS) applications.

At least that is their road plan.

By then an Android desktop will be available, and count me in. If my tablet is anything to go by it'll be sweet.

But my renewal for Objectdesk will be unforthcoming next year. The current w7 with my stardock applications will serve me fine for many years to come.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I tried to install Sound Packager on my new Win8 laptop, and Object Desktop Manager tells me that it is not compatible with Win 8.  Have things changed since the OP said that it was working on Win8?

Publius, Sound Packager will not install via SDC or ODM. The version I have archived from the store (V. 1.3.0.29), standalone installer, will install and works fine on my Windows 8.1 Pro MCE x64.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply.  The version I downloaded from the Stardock "My Downloads" page is 1.31.0, and the installer refuses to run, again saying that my OS doesn't meet the requirements of Sound Packager.  Perhaps they've updated it, or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I'm on Win8 Home Edition instead of Pro.

Oh well.  Was hoping to get my Babylon 5 sounds back.  I guess I'm SOL.

One more point as to why it is good to let SDC/ODM archive your apps.  O:)

Publius, you have a PM.  :time:

Any list like this for 8.1? I read somewhere else that WB had issues.

Where did you read this?

WB is quite happy on my Windows 8.1, but as with any OS you cannot assure that WB will function perfectly on -any- software configuration.
