Please don't mix fundamentalist muslim scum in with the vast majority of muslims, which are very loving people. Consider - the vast majority of muslims know nothing but peace and harmony. Consider entire countries with mostly muslim populations, are very peaceful places. Consider that you live next to one of the largest non-middle east muslim populations in the world - and how much trouble do you see/hear about? None.
Brunei for example, virtually all muslim, has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Less than 200 people a year are incarcerated, and stealing a car is front page news. You can literally tape money to your shirt and walk around Brunei unmolested. The only major trouble in Brunei was when some born again chumps tried to stage a Christian-Overthrow of the country, and stirred up serious problems, and started riots. This was in the late 90's, the Shiek threw them in prison, then after 6 months said he would release them if they said 'sorry'. They did, they were released, and life went on. I'd love to live in Brunei!
The Old Testament is a violent book, the old Qu'ran verses can sometimes be violent. Many spiritual scholars accept that these were the teachings of the old, angry god, which was really a demigod, or demiurge, or lesser god. Gnostic cultures tell of a fallen god that thought he was the only god, and was a jealous god, and incited mankind to dogmatic religions and violence. The more modern passages of the qu'ran demand peace and love, and these aren't hard to find. Similar in how the OT compares with the NT. However all of these are often misinterpreted, and used to justify actions by people that do not understand the context of these writings.
I have studied French explorer manuscripts from the 1500 and 1600's. They talk about the Great Lake Indian Tribes in detail. The shamans, in these hundreds of year old writings said that the god of white man was the 'angry false god' - even in these old writings! Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Shamans would describe encounters with fallen beings, or the 'twisted tongue ones' as they called them, pathological liars. I am on the impression that humanity has been heavily manipulated by unseen forces/powers of various types. I feel we must be careful to judge, and careful to not lump everyone into the same category.
Christians can be loving, helpful, wholesome people. but they can also be evangelical, radical, and dangerous. This goes for any society/culture/religion. We call these 'ISMS', ISM is something carried too far, and unfortuntely a lot of people take things too far - regardless of race/creed/religion.
