Bugs and Features
First of all, I want to applaud you on a great piece of software. This has now made Windows 8 1000x more usable for me! Here is a list of bugs/missing features that I've found so far.
Bugs:
The "fade" effect when hovering over all programs or a jump list in the start menu is missing. This was present in Windows 7.
The recent programs list (left pane of the start menu) does not appear to be working properly. It does not show all of my recent programs. For example, If I open word in the start menu it doesn't show up in the recent items list, The next time I open word, however it will show up. It never shows up if I use the search feature to launch it. In Windows 7, the 10 most recent programs were shown with the most recent program at the bottom of the menu. When I open a new program not in the list, the item at the top would be replaced with the one underneath... and so on and so forth.
Disabled Shutdown options still show up as selectable shutdown options in Start8, even if they are turned off in the OS. For example, I disable hibernation to conserve disk space on my system. Even though it is disabled, Hibernate still shows up as a shutdown option. This also goes for other shutdown options disabled by GPO a registry tweak...etc. This would be especially bad on servers if the shutdown option was present even though it was disabled by the system admin.
Folders that are expanded in the all programs view stay expanded the next time you open the menu
Icons for uninstalled metro apps sometimes show up in Start8 despite them already being uninstalled. If an app is uninstalled from metro, the shortcut should be deleted from start8 as well.
Disable hot corners does not always disable the hot corners, especially after a reboot or logging out/switching users etc.
Missing Features:
Some of the right click options are missing from Start8. For example shift+ right click does not bring up the run as different user option.
when searching for files and apps everything works, but when I am searching for something like "network connections" or "users and groups" I get no results. This worked in Windows 7.
There are no options to customize the start menu. In windows 7, there was a tab in taskbar properties for the Start menu. This tab (or equivalent) should be restored to start8. It included power button actions, icon sizes and what links, icons, etc. showed up in the start menu. It would also be nice if GPO start menu settings could be applied to the Start8 menu so that it is a viable option on 2012 Servers. (see shutdown options bug above)
The theme does not really match Windows 8. I believe other users have posted a theme that better matches the "flattened" look of the UI in Windows 8.
Feature Requests:
A key modifier SHIFT + WINKEY or SHIFT + Click to bring up the metro start page instead of start8
The ability to move the start menu between taskbars, or to have it on both taskbars on a multi monitor system
The ability to switch between a Windows 9x/2000, XP and Windows Vista/7 Style start menu
a wrapper to open metro apps in a window when on the desktop
