I'm also having the issue with no "exclude from quick hide" for individual icons.  Running windows 7 64 bit and have tried uninstalling Fences Pro and reinstalling Beta several times.  Still no right click exclude option.  Exclude Fences works fine, just not individual icons on the desktop

Some more info on the black folder portals problem.  I took a look at my startup programs and Fences appeared on there twice.  That's kinda odd, I thought.  So I disabled the earlier one on the list and now the folder portals are transparent and snazzy like the other fences again.

Hi

I have already post this message on the Stardock forums but it seems nobody is there today - I love Fences and am willing to provide and do any testing required in order to get this working:

I have uninstalled Fences Pro and installed 2.

When right clicking on an empty desktop area I see 'Configure Fences' and 'More Fences features' below that.

When I select 'Configure Fences' I see an egg timer for a split second and then nothing.

When I select 'More fences features' I am able to move into the next menu 'Click below to learn about what else Fences has to offer' however none of the items work when I click on them.

I have rebooted twice but still get nothing.  Fences seems to be working because I can draw a rectangle on my desktop and get the 'Create fence here' option and it creates the fence however I am not able to do much else.

Fences Pro worked fine.

I am running XP SP3 fully updated and well managed.

So, installed the new version of the beta.  It gives a warning message about folder portals and Aero not being enabled in Windows 7 Starter and says that folder portals won't be available.

But they are still there. *shrug*

When I try to run a WEI assesment:

Crashes the assesment after the 5th error.

Ok, disabled Fences 2, no help. Now the WEI assesment crashes at 3D Alpha blend.

Uninstalled Fences 2, rebooted, still crashing. Always at the Direct3D 10 Alpha Blend Assesment.  HELP!!

Ok, for the assesment crashing, Wizard1956 showed me how to clear all old WEI scores and force a recheck. This seems to have fixed the WEI crashing.

Fences reinstalled, WEI assesment run, two Fences 2 errors, no crashes.

When running a game for which I have checked 'Disable visual themes' in properties page because of performance issues with visual themes under Windows 7 (64-bit), Fences keeps popping up error messages about Aero not being enabled and folder portals not being available.

I found some annoying bugs. They are in the final of fences 2 I now use.

I just changed my wallpaper. Then whenever I changed between pages, the old wallpaper where displayed (only while changing). Once all fences has been hidden or unhidden, the problem is gone (until I change my wallpaper again).

if aero is not running after a fresh boot up/restart, it could happen that all your icons, from normal fences, get thrown out right onto your desktop. May only occours if portals are in use, since portals need aero to work proberly. Due to a problem with wb, it occasionally happens to me (only once after a skin change).

That one's being sorted ....keep an eye on updates...;)

I'm having problems with new shortcuts and Fences2.

If I right click a program in all programs, and choose send to desktop, create shortcut, it shows in the desktop folder, but not ON the desktop.

If you disable then re-enable Fences, does it show?

No. I tried. So I'm back to Fences Pro for now. Fences 2 is causing way too many problems for now.

Quoting Zubaz, reply 48This is really intended behaviour: If a shortcut doesn't exist, don't show it.

Try loading the last snapshot after you mount the drive.  That should restore the shortcuts.

Drive mounted, shortcuts created and fenced.  Snapshot taken, drive dismounted, right-click desktop and Refresh - shortcuts disappear from fence.  Re-mounted drive, restored snapshot, shortcuts remain gone even after right-clicking and choosing Refresh on desktop.  Edit: they appear to have moved to my "Unsorted" fence, where I put all new icons by default on the desktop.

I would revisit why you chose to hide/move shortcuts that point to a volume not accessible or visible.  That includes encrypted volumes, hot-swap drives like USB sticks, etc.  Requiring someone restore a snapshot to restore hidden shortcuts is too tedious, in my opinion.  They may have made/changed other fences since the last automated daily, and this would cause no end of trouble when it reverted.

As a fences user, I would simply like to see shortcuts remain where they are, and utilize default Windows behavior for shortcuts.  If their drive isn't accessible, they simply timeout.  If you'd like custom behavior, you could dim their icon or make it slightly transparent to indicate the file they point to isn't available.

Note: this problem persists in Fences 2.0.  Icons that are continually re-created are eventually (and seemingly randomly) deleted from their assigned fence.  On one occasion they were moved to the default fence for new icons.  All other times they have been forcibly removed (an actual delete of a file by Fences 2.0).

It worries me that Fences would be removing icons permanently from any fence.  I have folders that I occasionally drop into fences for temporary storage, that have actual data on them.  How can I trust Fences if it is deleting files elsewhere?

Might have to do what others seem to be doing - revert to Fences Pro until 2.0 is reliable.

ONe of the most annoying and long standing bugs I have with fences is that it will remove any icon from its fence if I have fences hidden (double clicked desktop) when I right click it. This does not happen if I use the "context menu" keyboard key for the same command.

it is quite an annoying bug. I usually have to double-click my desktop and unhide anything before I dare to right-click any desktop icon.

I wish they had fixed it in version 2!

Axel

PS: I also have the "exclude this icon from quick-hide" menu missing on some icons, but that one is new to Fences 2.

Just keeping this alive and from fading away permanently - the bug still persists, and the ticket that was opened a month ago remains unresolved.  It is an impediment on using Fences with removable or encrypted drives.

I Wanted to report a Bug within the current Version of Fences 2.01. I'm also using TrueCrypt to encrypt a data drive which i manually mount after system startup. Fences has been installed on the (unencrypted) system drive while the data drive was mounted. When booting the system, the Windows Explorer keeps crashing until Fences stops auto-loading at Explorer startup. When trying to manually start Fences, the same thing happens. The problem gets solved when i mount my drive and manually start Fences. Please note that currently i have no folder-portal pointing to a folder on the encrypted data-drive. At max i got some shortcuts which point to that drive in "normal" fences boxes.

Please note that for testing i tried the following:

- mount data drive

- start fences

- unmount data drive

- delete all fences snapshots

- create a new fences snapshot with no data drive mounted

- reboot

Anyway: the error still occurs.

Oh: I'm running on Windows 7 x64 Pro with latest Updates and Service Packs installed. No other Desktop / GUI modification that i would know of is installed.
