5v5 w/ Advent Loyalists

Rainbows, Unicorns, and Vengeful Psychic Children

Thought I'd post this 5v5 game since it's the first time I've played Advent Loyalists while managing to pretty much get all the tools in their kit out. Even features some Deliverance Engine happy vibes...

I'm in the eco slot and manage to get a pretty long spread of empire and use the Evangelization Nodes on Starbases to really push the culture into enemy territory. Coward's submission is actually decent in this situation as any enemy fleets trying to push all the way through your planets will have to take each, even little asteroids and moons, one at a time or risk losing ships with each jump.

Guardian repulse is just evil at knocking and resetting ships trying to phase jump from gravity wells...

The game kind of drags out as a certain person playing Vasari Loyalists refuses to leave and even the sunshine and rainbows of the Unity get a little cloudy for a while.

Couple mistakes I made were just missing a kill on the Vasari Titan mid-late game as it is raiding in our territory. It had like 180 health and 2 side by side phase lanes to exit on and I picked the wrong one to chase it. You can see which phase lane ships exit on if you are zoomed at the right level (not too far and not too close) but I didn't catch which one in time and it escaped. Second mistake was losing my own Titan in my first HW assault. Even with lots of health and shield upgrades and all of the culture phase missile block bonuses, the Vasari bomber cloud still really brings the pain.

Hmm... that seemed like some pretty jerk behavior on the part of kbroke and CptObv to drag out the game as long as they did - they best they could hope for is for other players to drop due to time constraints or minidumps, which doesn't seem like an honorable way to win.  The Ragnarov getaway at the end was epic though.

On a different subject - why don't I ever see anyone else putting up trade SBs in neuts to extend their trade lanes?  Seems like a lot of lost potential income, considering people could often double the length with them.

By that point in the game, I didn't care as much about income from trade - I had enough income coming in already for at least 2 players so it was better invested in pushing military strength, culture, and consolidating position I felt. I felt bad for JakeMac when I watched the replay as the guy got the absolute shittiest starting position I have ever seen in a game.

Ekko im so proud your embracing the loyalists way...good for you.

Thanks for posting a replay, always nice to watch them. |-)

kbroke... why does that ring a bell.... ? :annoyed:

Yes, the Ragnarov getting away after killing the Vorastra is awesome. Speak about just in time. :P

A couple of things I noticed:

  • you didnt do much in any economy research, not even with the labs you had available at the time. Even on the verge of defeat kbroke had more income than you. At this stage of the game, it didnt mattered anymore of course. But under more normal circumstances this might prove a disadvantage when you have taken heavy losses and need to replace them fast.

  • That other guy just feeded Cpt. Obvious Eradica with all those corvettes and frigates.... half of that levels could have been avoided. It didnt mattered in the end, but under normal circumstances, I would rather avoid having to deal with a level 10 Eradica.

  • For his terrible starting position, JakeMac put up a hell of a fight.

  • No observed wail use.... which I personally find odd as there had been more than one wonderfull occassion

Awesome replay dude. I love watching someone play AL well (my favorite race) and you kicked ass. The mistakes you mentioned were the only ones I caught. GG. Taught me a few things about my pocket game.

Thanks man - I actually don't feel like I did a lot in this game until near the end though - my allies did a good job pushing both lanes up the sides and I was just supporting them economically until I pushed through to the other half of the map. I guess from my end it does show AL in eco slot. I've had some much better games recently as far as balanced teams and action but unfortunately I'm getting hit with the exit minidump crash about every 3rd game so quite a few end up unwatcheable.

ARESIV - did you mean Kbroke had more economic income per second or just more resources when you checked? He was eating planets so he probably had more in the bank at certain times and he wasn't feeding anyone I don't think. The only thing I can think of I didn't do economically was a few more trade ports and a couple more points in the metal/crystal mining research. Yes, the Eradica got level10 - I didn't see much of their battles but obviously lots of frigates must've been fed to it.

I switched between all remaining players shortly before the end of the game. He had more income than you when i hovered over his ressources compared to you.

RK why are you LAN only and not playing online? I'd think it would get stagnant as far as improving if you only played vs. the same 3 LAN mates all the time. Then again, ICO is not that much different I guess - just 20-30 people instead of a handful of personal friends.

Capt. Obivous is not Siddy. I'm not sure if Siddy plays but from what I've heard you'd know it by his trash talk. There is also a Capt. Hindsight who is pretty good. There's a few players I'm curious about - Seth_Shadow - seems to be an older player but I don't know if that's his main name. And, in this replay here, Crowstorm aka Fiddlesticks aka ?? must be a smurf of someone as his record is 2-29 or something but he plays pretty well and knows the game. He wouldn't tell me when I asked.

Here's 3 new games of late:

http://www.2shared.com/file/zrnqTeXk/Three_Games_of_Sins.html

Wails of a Solar Empire

Featuring a lot of AR doing their thing. It was interesting how people did or did not adapt to the planet layout and wail. In some cases, you just can't "adapt" because you're too disadvantageously hemmed in. The game is quite long and features some high level Titans by the end. Dumdeedum does succesfully use Timed Explosives on scouts to take out at least one Temple with wail but his morale drops and he leaves the game (too early imo) resulting in basically a 3v4 or thereabouts. I'll leave the climax a secret.

Don't Panic

This game quickly degenerates into a 2v5 but we hold out and fight for as long as we can before the other team inexorably tightens the noose. I felt like our Pink player needlessly panicked early on and basically abandoned all his planets hoping to relocate but ultimately leading to nothing. There are a couple good wails in this one but the other team has such an economic advantage that Novaliths neuter any further wailing. I went from #1 eco to #1 military once we effectively lost half our team but then through having to Starbase a lot of main worlds to protect from Novas, I drop to 4th/5th in both and get deadlocked by two advancing players. I used 2 Progenitors to start but then lost them trying to destroy Bombshell's Titan factory before it released the Titan. I literally had his planet down to 180 health before his SB protection kicked in and kept the factory going. There's also some good fights of Radio vs. Aquia that are basically Vas SB fights, reminding me of a Sumo match for some reason...

Smurfalicious

As the name implies, there's more than a few mystery players here. No wailing. Playing AL. The fight vs. Nayru and Boltie is of interest - Nayru doesn't panic and expands really nicely despite losing his HW to a Vasari SB drop. Also I thought Maslake held out really well for a relatively new player vs. JBaum and one other trying to kill him early. JBaum tries a Sova rush on him...can't remember what else happened this game.

Will check when I get home. Good stuff to improve my play I hope. Thanks in advance!

Another replay here:

http://www.2shared.com/file/bTBpuuVe/AutoRecord-10071843.html

This is all about Starbases this game. The main interesting fights are JakeMac vs. Aquia (Advent vs. Vasari), CarpetBomb vs. Howthe? (Advent vs. Vasari) and myself vs. Bombshell (Advent vs. Advent). Eros and Archa are in a stalemate most of the game and the other 2 are eco slots. There is quite a bit of offensive SB usage. The other team's eco player complained at the end about being #1 eco but his team still losing. It's all in the post game stats. You can see he made way more credits but also hoarded them more and didn't feed as much as our eco player. It's something I always check because I want to see how much my winning or losing depended on feed. In this game I was happy to see I won my battles despite getting less feed. In Aquia's case I felt bad because people probably think, he's Aquia, he doesn't need feed! Anyway, hope you enjoy.

what 2 players was eco?

Is there some way to watch this even if it's not the same version? I.e. Some way to rollback sins?

Probably not unless you made a steam backup. But then the engine didn't really change from 1.04 to 1.1, so you might get lucky.

VeteranPlayer was the eco on our team. It's been quite a while so I don't recall the other team's eco - it was a newish player who was good at the basics but lacked experience. I can't remember if they said 1.04 to 1.1 would destroy replay compatability or not. Were you able to get the game to play?
