Fallen Enchantress Pre-order Available on Steam, GameStop, GamersGate and GameFly

Stardock announced today that Fallen Enchantress is now available on Steam, GameStop PC Downloads and GamersGate. Customers will gain immediate access to download the latest beta version.

Fallen Enchantress offers PC gamers a chance to experience a unique fantasy world for players to build or destroy as they conquer the land. Players create a sovereign with unique talents and abilities along with a faction to align themselves with in an effort to bring the world under their control. However, the land is not simply waiting to be claimed, it must be conquered. The lands of Elemental are teeming with monsters, bandits and other beings of dread who will not willingly give up their hold on the world. Other factions are pursuing the same agenda at the same time, raising the stakes and deciding the ultimate outcome: who wins and who dies.

Key features:

  • Massive scale. Players can zoom in and see the citizens working in their cities or zoom out to see the revealed world presented in a real-time cloth map with one smooth transition.
  • Unique factions. Choose from one of eight unique factions to play as or create their own by customizing traits and exclusive capabilities.
  • Unit Design. Learning technologies unveils new and unique types of units. Players also can design their own units with a unique look, equipment, skills, weapons and more.
  • Quests. Players are presented with tasks along the way. These quests present significant risk, but allow the player’s champions access to greater experience, magical items, equipment and new allies.
  • Never the same game twice. The game supports randomly generated worlds. Players will never see the same map twice.
  • Epic areas. Away from the starting locations, are the Wild Lands of Elemental. You’ll find these areas populated by unique and dangerous monsters, their defeat opens up rich lands for players to conquer and exploit.
  • Multiple paths to victory. Win through diplomacy, questing, sorcery, or establish dominance with military conquest.

Designed by Derek Paxton, the creator of the acclaimed mod “Fall from Heaven”, Fallen Enchantress is a rich and deep strategy game that is designed to provide many hours of replayability and enjoyment.

The final version of Fallen Enchantress is expected to be released this Fall.

Steam keys are not being given out and if you have a FE key already from your Stardock account that is what you have.

It's the same game, the only difference is where you are downloading it from.

At the end of the day, someone who hates FE now will hate it when it's released.

8C   So cold and heartless. X(

I actaully LOVE the game...well, 90% of it. I imagine that you are holding the last 10% back for the game's release.

Though, I'm still hoping the few concepts I've mentioned in other threads are still further considered:

  • Pioneer Spam & No Scouts
  • Mid-Game Monster Spawns
  • Insufficent Essence in a world of Magic
  • Road Design
  • Tatical Land

or...at the very least...implement ways for these items to be modded in great detail. XD

any hints as to whether you are considering these topics?? :pout:

They never say what they are considering, only what is done. A lesson from WoM.

I bought the game on GamersGate, and it tells me that I need to activate it on Steam. I'm good with that. However, I haven't received any CD-key to activate it.I've been in contact with Stardock that tells me to contact GamersGate. I've done so, but not yet had a reply from them.

A couple of months ago I tried to buy the game directly from Stardock. That didn't work out well. I was in contact with them then as well and received only snotty answers from their support. I forgot about the game and thought that they can have their game if they won't accept my payment. I was then happy to see it pop up on GamersGate the other day. But no. Only problems and only contact with several different help desks.

Now I've payed for it, but don't get to play it. Stupid me should have known better. Buying this game has only been a headache from the start and I've never experienced major problems like these with ANY game ever.

@gfrilund777

Bummer. That seems to be very abnormal for Stardock. Of the threads I've read, they are quite willing and readily able to help and assist, and even give money back if not satisfied. I would think it very odd that they would snub you as you describe.

As for Gamersgate & Steam....you get what you pay for.

I've been following the game and waited for the moment it would arrive on steam to buy it. And so I did.

But: One of the points of selling the game on steam should be better visibility of the product. There is no indication whatsoever on steam store main page of Fallen Enchantress. Basically those who have bought the game on steam are those who follow the game through other channels (like this forum). This can't be good for sales.

Other titles like "Starvoid", "War of the Roses","Endless space" have/had advertisements on steam main page like "pre-purchase now available. Join the beta!" etc. Shouldn't FE have one too?

Man...that is really too bad, but what I expected.  Those of us who have been in since the beginning with WoM didn't have the option of purchasing through Steam.  Personally, I would have in a heart-beat, as I like to have all my games in one spot.  Also, I much prefer Steam's automatic updates that i don't need to think about.

Please consider revisiting this policy.  At the end of the day, it would be super-fantastic - but I also understand that, as a person getting this game for free, I can't be that choosy.

I recall from one or two years old comments from Stardock FE will be free for those who bought it before 31/12/10 (I personally pre-ordered Elemental SE).

Any news/ update on that? Rumors? Did not get anything like personal e-mail with words "pls use this promotion code to get your free copy of FE"

Check https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products.  The Beta info should be in there.

Ok, I know FE was promised free to purchasers of Elemental but I just did a re-buy on Steam. I figure that since the developers have supported this game beyond any reasonable point, I would buy it beyond any reasonable point. I've heard good things so far, so here's hoping it's awesome!

Today I looked at Gamestop Impulse about Fallen Enchantress and there it says it uses Steamworks and so I would have to make a Steam account.

Is this true and Stardock have give up on theyr DRM Free attitude? (Sorry if this is answeared somewhere already)

I kind of find it sad if it is true as even trough I would get it for free because I was one of the people Preoredered the War of Magic I probably won't play it. As mentioned it would mean that I have to create a new Steam account and with all the drm free games I own from gog/desura/impulse by now that wait to be played by me thats something that can wait. (Firaxis also lost my as customer because of theyr move to Steamworks)

Fe doesn't use steamworks.

There will be no DRM is FE.

Thanks Frogboy thats good to hear. Maybe you can talk with the people at Gamestop Impulse why they say that FE is protected with Steamworks.

Wow. Dirty company. They are selling the game under false pretenses, as you most definately don't need steam client to download and play...let alone steamworks.

Grr...I hate steam.

GameStop is just selling Steam keys.

GameStop is just selling Steam keys.

Fair enough. If they're only selling steam keys, then it's naturally going to require steam to run.

Just doesn't seem right that they won't post the non-steam option along side...

My friends and I own many 4x games on steam so I don't think there will be a problem finding a player base for it there though we'll be skipping out on this one as a group I think.  We always play coop as a group.  I've followed the game since I purchased EWoM at it's original release and got them all to buy it but it never really had playable coop.  I don't think I'll get them to bite off on one that doesn't even have the option.
