Elevated Run Dialog

Launch the Run dialog as an elevated process

Hi,

This is a great app. I was a bit weary at first as I wanted a "nearly-classic" Windows 7-type Start Menu at first. I tried a few Windows 7-looking ones out there and they were crap; buggy and lacking in basic features. I think once you get used to the Start8 system, it'll be just as good, if not better!

My main concern is the inability to launch the Run dialog as an elevated task, so that programs executed from it will too be elevated. This was a feature in Windows 7 when UAC was switched off (UAC can go to hell, I never leave it switched on). I also noticed that ViStart (although it's full of bugs and will add to peoples' pain rather than boost convenience) has the "Run..." button elevating the process like in Windows 7.

Can we have this little feature come to Start8 (I'm talking about when you right-click the orb and hit the "Run..." option)? Using the Search inside the Start Menu, just as you would in Vista and 7, is all well and good, but the Run dialog has its advantages, too. Best of both worlds to have the two, and even better if the latter is elevated.

Thanks,

D

I have to take this post back. It seems that turning UAC off in Windows 8 doesn't work in the traditional sense. You must turn it off in the registry and then you indeed will get an elevated Run dialog. However, turning UAC off completely stops your Metro/Modern UI apps from working - a friendly prompt will make you aware of this once you try to run one of those new Modern apps. Microsoft have really done it this time!
