Need advice about Intel core i3 CPU

Could be one for Yrag.....

Hi guys.... I just upgraded my system (motherboard, CPU, 8Gb Corsair RAM, SSD). The cpu is an Intel Core i3 2120, and I was reading about it and found that it has the HD2000 onboard graphics. Now, after looking into this, it seems that it's really quite good and according to a lot of tech sites it is better than most entry level graphics cards!

My current Graphics card is an Nvidia GT220 with 1Gb of ram (and 48 cuda cores, whtaever the chuff THEY are!!). SO, what I would like to know, is, will the HD2000 onboard graphics of the new CPU be better than my GT220, and can I do away with the graphics card altogether if it's inferior to the onboard one?

It's all a bit too technical for me...... so which is best, the HD2000 onboard, or my GT220?

Thanks in advance guys for any help with this. B[]

Hmmm, just put that back through the translator and it makes no sense at all.....!!!

Oh well, it seems that even when I write in English it makes no sense either..... lol

From what I've been able to 'dig up' (thanks, Google) most people in this situation have been adviced to use the GT 220.
Not that the onboard thang ain't good. The other one appears to be just a tad better.

Boxxi, I use Passmark for GFX card comparisons LINK You just enter in the  Cards' model number and it will find it on the list.

In the case of the  GT220 it is rated 355/403. I don't see the HD2000 but the HD2100 which should be slightly higher specs than the HD2000 is rated 272/535

With the first number, higher is better, with the second, lower is better. The nVidia card rates well above the HD 2100 in this case.

I hope this helps.

Wiz, I found the HD2000, it was listed as Intel i3 2120, (but i found the GT220 rated 444/330, which is better really!!) Thanks again!! B[]

You're welcome Ace.   :sun: There is such a confusing array of Graphics cards and numbers out there with such a wide range of specs, I found a need for some sort of reference.  I'm happy to pass it on.

At the top of the page, you will see they do CPU's and HDD benchmarks as well.

Yes, Bryan, it's very likely better than a 1 meg Trident VGA ....;p

Avoid anything 'onboard' if you're doing anything more 'taxing' than a Doc file...;)
