Empires of Scorcery - also wants to emulate the MoM feeling

This is on a lot smaller budget and scale than FE, but they deserve a chance and I have supported them. Their goal is $25 000.

I am becoming a kickstarter addict :) If only it was a bit easier to search on the kickstarter page. Difficult to get an overview over good strategy games there.

Huh.. there used to be another post about this game but it has been nuked.

The graphics just look too poor for me to be interested in it. It's not just a matter of having low-resolution sprites, they are also low-quality (ugly). They don't have a solid design for the game and I seriously doubt they'll be able to produce the amount of content necessary to fill out a game of this type.

You must have scanned my mind and taken those words from me!  :P

The graphics are too bad. The units has like 2 animations per bodypart and that's just....eeh this is not 1993 anymore....

If they're not even gonna equal Age of Wonders in graphics then the rest of the game have to be the 2nd coming to make me buy it.

The graphics are placeholders mostly.

Yah...

It's funny how people completely miss that one of their biggest reasons for going to kickstart is to get the money to get the art assets done correctly.

that said, I'm still not sold on this game at all.

Undead as a playable race?  Ok, if that's what what your boner is great, I could simply not care less.

I guess you need cash to produce good art assets, and you need good art assets to get in the cash.  But I really think they need to be further along before they try to go the kickstarter route.  There's just about no way (for me, at least) to see how much specific depth the game has for the very little they offer.  Do a few mockups of research, production, and diplomacy screens!  Show me, not what it will necessarily look like in gold code, but that you've thought ahead to what you want.  And tell me how it will more or less fit together.

The thing for me is that I would be quite happy with a MoM clone, that pretty much just cleans up the interface a bit, makes it look nice and shiney and cool, and makes the AI 'competent'.

Improving on the classic usually means adding crap that distracts from the simple beauty of what MoM is.  Which is in no small part why EWoM turned out to be a steamy pile of feces.

FE, I have no opinion on, I've stopped following it because, in my opinion, it's still trying to do too much, and I doubt it can do it all well enough to satisfy me.

I put in my usual $15, and wish them luck. :d

Good for you, and I mean that. :) You're aware that realmsbeyond.net has a MoM site with a really good patch and another that reconfigures some in-game things to make more sense?

Apropos of nothing, I have we start seeing some kickstarter efforts for a Darklands remake.  But I have my doubts, considering the illogical actions of the current rights holders.
