Dumb question

Yea I have been playing Sins for about a year now since Diplomacy, but I have a dumb question that I probably should know by now, Do multiple research centers give you bonuses to research speed? Or do they only unlock research and more than 8 are pointless? I tried checking the research times ingame before and after building a few research centers, no change.

No, they just unlock further tiers. They don't affect research speed, though a few extra combat labs in theory are useful to make sure you don't lose access to firing superweapons if you lose a military lab.
