Hrmmm iOS 4.3 now required for some apps

This is a little short sighted.

Synch an iPhone 4S and update apps.
The minimum iOS supported for some of these apps has been bumped up to iOS 4.3

Uhh... my iPod Touch 2nd gen's final update is iOS 4.2.1. I can no longer use these updated apps?

Sooo...
How long until an iPhone 3G or lower, and/or an iPod touch 2nd Gen or lower start to lose their once working apps in droves as developers update their iOS versions to the required 5.x for future minimum hardware?

I had an Iphone once. 3GS I think it was called. Once the IOS was updated beyond 4.0 the phone just gave up. Would not connect to my laptop and restarted during phone conversations. One day it restarted and went back to factory settings without asking me. Lost a lot of pics (since I could not connect to laptop). I got a Samsung and have not looked back.

I'm searching for an app that will run my iPad battery down fast to where it won't hold a 50% charge--then I can get a new one for $99.

:)

P.S.  I got my wife a Kindle Fire.

He He He

Apple wants to sell some new stuff. Guess trying to ban competition is not enough for them.

Some years back [and even today] people were calling Microsoft the 'Evil Empire', but this behaviour by Apple shows what evil really is.  I really wanted to try out a Mac desktop, but the more I hear about its practices, locked in systems and slave labour in China, the less and less I see myself going that way.  Then there's my great-niece's experience....

Yeah, my great-niece started university this year and fell in with the yuppy crowd of Apple/Mac fanatics, so [you guessed right] she sold off her Windows based laptop and got herself a Macbook Pro with all the bells and whistles... and an iPad.... and an iPhone, to be one of the 'in crowd'  Everything was rosy and her new equipment was the bee's knees.... until one day when [similarly to the OP] her iPhone performed an update that broke all her apps, so she took it to the Apple store get it fixed.

Wasn't she in for a rude awakening!  The assistant told her she would have to purchase all new apps to regain her functionality, to which she said "I can't afford that after spending over $4500 on Apple products".... to which she was told "sorry we can't help you."  She then said that she wanted the phone backdated to the previous firmware to be able to use her apps,, to which she was told "that will void your warranty."  Silly girl got a uni friend to revert back to the previous software, and not long after the phone broke totally, and of course Apple voided the warranty and consigned it to being a rather expensive paper weight.

Not to be deterred, Mak [that's her nick... short for Makaylah] purchased herself another iPhone, and so far so good.  However, it's now her iPad that's giving her grief.  Some of her apps on that ceased to function recently and she's had some power issues with it, so instead of taking it to uni to use as a study aid, she's having to leave it at home and take the much heavier and cumbersome MacBook Pro.  Now that is still working properly and she has had no technical issues with it... however, there are things she did on her Windows machine that she cannot do on the MacBook Pro... because the required programs simply won't install.

So, in light of all that, Apple's generally nasty attitude all 'round, my thoughts of purchasing a Mac have taken a serious nosedive and several steps back.  Nope, I think I'll stick to building my own Windows based machines and enjoy an open world of computing that's not tied to proprietary hardware and software that limits my personal wants and needs.

Had a buddy who frequented Crossroads and was quite envious of others who owned laptops. Dummy paid $2500.00 for a Macbook Pro and it lasted him all of three months. He had a bad habit of flying off the handle when things didn't go his way and when his Macbook acted up he got mad and slammed his fist down on the mousepad cracking it. Then his hard drive went out. Now he's got a very expensive parer weight and Apple refuses to fix it unless he comesw up with some big bucks. More than the machine itself is worth. I love my Windows.

I personally think part of Apple's OVERPRICED sleek "unidesign" machines have one bigger objective than "elegance".  It's designed obsolescence.

You pay $4k for the wundermachine and when a component inside it fails...you go buy a new one.  Great for the bottom line.

You gotta love a company that bundles a monitor and all your components so when any one of them fails they can press you to go buy a whole new bundle and throw away the old one.

They've definitely "gone green"--but it has nothing to do with the environment.

An angry fool is parted from his money even faster than a usual fool. Proprietary hardware and software aren't 'consumer friendly' in the money sense, but your friend isn't 'computer friendly', period. He needs to find less destructive (self and property) ways to deal with frustration.

I know a few Apple/Mac owners (Windows devices as well) who are quite happy with their computers and mobile devices, and treat them with respect. There really are folks like that around, even in these 'use and discard' times. That may not be great for any 'bottom line' other than their own. ;)
