multiplayer stars

the only way this type of map has been done is with NO links to the stars(otherwise the ships just use the stars as normal) and using wormholes to link the star groups (so that it IS possible to get between the star groups (stars & their planets))

so does that mean if i link one star there alll linked or only the ones i do link?

All stars are always linked to all other stars. You can not change that. If you link them with phase lanes, all that means is you don't have to research the tech like normal.

You'll need to use wormholes to get the effect you want one way or another.

You could link one of the star systems to the sun--and ships could travel from that sun to the other suns, but if those other suns aren't linked to anything, it would be kind of silly to jump from the stars.  What Harpo said is the way to do it.

All of that having been said, if your goal is to make a map that will be played in online multiplayer PvP ("real Sins games"), don't bother.  Most people who play PvP would prefer to play on single star maps and/or wouldn't take the effort required to add your map to their Sins game and custom maps (made in Galaxy Forge) do not auto-download.

I have e map where the stars don't connect to the essential planets but provide an "off the grid"  hiding place with a few uncolonizable systems that randomly spawn connected to them--as well as some randomly dead end wormholes.

But for basics--stars are always connected to other stars.  Planet scan be made disconnected but only planets.

Pendart, this is your answer right here....connect the stars with phase lanes, then play with a mod that removes the technologies that allow you to phase jump from one star to any other....

So ironic that most will happily waste 15 minutes squabbling, afk-ing, or trolling in the game lobby before a game can actually get under way, but take a minute or two to download a map? Nooooo thank you!

...and this is the state of online multiplayer gaming today.  I remember playing Unreal Tournament (UT99) back in 2002 over a dial-up  modem and waiting to download 3 MB map files.  I even figured out what maps were on the server and downloaded them in the background while I was doing other things for a later manual install.  Today, gamers won't even take 45 seconds to download a map pack with an effortless auto-install feature.  May that partially explains why online multiplayer gaming has become consolized and gone downhill--players want instant gratification and don't want to play anything that's at all detailed or complicated.
