Age, Gender, Race, & Income

Looking through the state-specific xml files, I noticed that there is code for age, gender, race, income. How do these variables affect gameplay?

From what I've discovered so far, I have no idea how they affect gameplay. However, I do know that having for example some of the endorsements do cause buffs in your state, for example you get better votes if you get the endorsement that supports women.
