Mod Requests Topic

I'm creating a topic for Mod Requests, so that the forums don't get clogged up with topics of "my mod request"

On here you can post any ideas you have for a cool mod, these can include:

  • Issues
  • Endorsement (replacements)
  • Parties  (replacements)
  • Maps
  • Characters
  • and anything else I may have forgotten...

please include a lot of information, especially for things such as:

  • for issues; what the parties views are on it (support or oppose)
  • For endorsements: Who's Endorsement it would be, and what it would replace
  • Parties; What the party Believes and what/who they fight for
  • Maps; Preferably real map requests, or post a picture of the map that you would like if fantasy, Also Ideas for any regions or states that you suggest its split in to.
  • Characters; What they believe, what they fight for; which party.

part of the reason modders need a lot of information is that we aren't all american, I for example am from the UK, And although I study American Politics, I don't have a perfect understanding, as I am not in the environment myself.

Note for modders: Please quote the mod that you wish to claim and post that you claim the Mod

Note to prospective modders: read the tutorials to see what YOU can do to the game :)

Note to admins: Just trying to keep your forum organised ;)

You know what would be fun?  Middle Earth.  Imagine how Sauron would handle losing to Aragorn.   8O

Funnily enough...I had already come up with a concept for that, because I absolutely love Lord of the Rings...wasn't going to bother with it, didn't think anyone would download it :-p

I'll throw together the map in a bit, see what you think :P

DESPERATELY NEED THE ABILITY TO ADD NEW SCENARIOS INSTEAD OF REPLACE USA ALL THE TIME :p

I sent you a message before I saw this topic (sorry) so I'll put this here to follow the rules.

How can I make random events that happen that make an issue or two more important to voters and swing their opinion for or against the topic? Possible examples being a nuclear reactor meltdown, causing all states with nuclear power stations to care a lot more about the Alternative Energy issue, sea levels rise a drastic amount after an ice shelf collapses into the ocean making all states with coastline care more about the environment, Israel being attacked, starting a war causing the Supporting Israel issue to be more important, etc. I'd like to make some event relating to every issue that causes a large block of voters to care more about the issue and swing their opinion to opposing or favoring the issue.

How can I make a governor's endorsement that your awareness and approval by 1% a week in their state or a former president's endorsement that buffs your credibility?

I'd very much enjoy a world map, elect the President of Earth and such. It would be difficult, sure, with over 192 countries to compete for (perhaps exclude or simply group together the oceanic states?). Another cool mod would be a progressive "campaign" starting with the very first United States election, and with each victory moving on to the next year adding and altering the map as it occurred in history. 270towin.com has progressive maps of the United States elections going all the way back to 1789, and I just figure it would be fun to play out each map (although Washington would clearly need an opponent in 1789 (King George perhaps? lol) as would Monroe a proper one in 1820).

Other ideas include a Mexican election map, as well as (and included with the former) a mode which would allow for third party candidates to run against the two establishment. This would REALLY make the game interesting, in my humble opinion =]

Creating random events, I think, is relatively easy, although I haven't yet given it a go myself. The alternative here is to create an "activist" random event, which could appear in a state and bring the issue views down in that certain state (and can't be moved). This is something I was going to look in to, and will do at some point, but If you go poking around in the xml files you might see the section about random events somewhere (will be in data/english probably).

Again I recommend you add a kind of random person that can appear in a state, just called "Govenor" or "Former President", Which is basically a copy of the other person who buffs your awareness in a state. As I said, go poking around in the xml files. I will have a look and post anything I find when I get a bit of free time in the next few days.

Once you know how to map, its really easy, so creating a president of earth map wouldn't be difficult at all. would probably take me 3 or 4 hours; I will be uploading a tutorial of how to map, once i get over the fact that I am one of the only people who know how right now ;). I'll put it on my list of ideas however, and see if I can throw together a quick map later. (later is relative to now, not necessarily "today " - in my timezone.)

although I really like this idea, I can't do a progressive campaign at the moment. There are a few bits missing, such as the menu option to select a campaign which was in the 2008 version. If they stick that menu button back in, I'd be able to create campaigns because all the pieces are there at the moment. sorry.

I would love a third candidate, and would literally get on my knees and beg stardock to add this capability; however it would be a bit of work for them, graphically especially, as the UI is designed for 2 parties, and there would be a lot of menus to change to add a third party. In theory I guess if you got desktopX you could attempt to fix this yourself, but I have had mixed luck with editing those files, and ended up deciding it wasn't worth the hassle. I would like a third candidate because I am planning a lot of "total conversions" to different, new, maps of different countries. Some of these countries, such as my UK mod, have a lot of possible parties, and cutting down to 2 is a shame, even cutting down to 3 or 4 would be a shame.

As for Mexican election, that is very possible. Adding new maps to the game has become very easy after creating the mapping for my UK mod, It probably takes me between 5-15 mins per state, depending on the size of the complexity of the state. I also plan on doing some other mods such as:

  • Finishing up the UK mod ( just have to change the endorsements and fix the random crash issue)...(...and make the candidates)
  • Race for Mayor in "_____" < city undecided, probably new york to begin with
  • Australian election
  • French election
  • Canadian elections
  • Russian elections?
  • President of the world mode

and a lot more that I can't remember off the top of my head (got them written down somewhere).

There are a few limitations at the moment, for example, any mod that i make, completely replaces the USA on the game. I've contacted stardock in hope that they will allow a function for me to add alternative scenarios for the player to select, like in 2008 version. That way, players could load any one of these modes up :) I also can't change the currency, it has to be in $ which annoyed me at first, but I'm over it now ;). $ is the universal symbol for money, and everyone recognises is. Realism isn't really the aim in a game like this either ;p
