Arnonian Battlecruiser to sell or not to sell?

Hi all This is my first post..P, I'm pretty new to the game having only just purchased the ultimate edition from a bargain bin,hehe  and i'm really hooked!  i'm lovin it!:-)

It's the best fun iv'e had (on a game lol)  since discovering the Civilization classics way way back, this coming from a massive Pro Evolution Soccer and racing car sim veteran.

 

Completed a game on the standard mode and won through alliances. :-)

Then started a campaign completed the first scenario on my second proper attempt, after realizing the patterns and strategies of the ai particuarly the Dredd Lords .....

Now started this second mission against the Yor collective, all was going well till I took a proper look at my finances and realized whatever I did I was loosing money!, even with no civic building, research or ship building, my credit was reducing continuously

Taking a closer look at the finances I realized that it was the Arconian Battlecruiser which was costing so much in maintenance! However REALLY it is my only competent ship against the enemy and selling it would make me hugely vunerable as the Yor is continousley building heavy fighters and troop transporters

I cannot invade a planet as much research is needed before I could even contemplate.  I tried to reach the resource crystals but some are out of range, this meant I designed a few new  constructor ships in order to have the range, but these ships need defending, even though I designed them with arms ,this meant spending a few more precious credits on a number of fighters as  the battlecruiser can't be in 3-4 places at once!

 Even with these crystals under my control (have built starbases) money is STILL going down and once I reach -500 or so I then cannot move the sliders any higher as all research, civic building,and military is suspended

So how is this mission accomplished please? I don't see any way out, oh and I forgot to mention the enemy has placed a spy over my recruitment building which is now stifling the already very slow population growth...I wouldnt mind so much if I was on impossible difficulty, but i'm only on normal!!

 

I really need help, i'm not enjoying this as much now

I have little experience with the campaign game (I pretty much only play sandbox), but it is usually a bad idea to sell off your only military advantage. If you are bleeding money, you can try to fix your economy, or you can instead focus on getting the job done while the money runs out (completing the mission objective). Getting the resource crystals may be a boost, but reading your statement I'd say they are instead a waste of time (as they don't fix the problem) and instead a terrible distraction.

If I understand you correctly, you are playing the first campaign (the Dread Lords), using a Twilight of the Arnor teach tree. This could also be part of your problem, as this tech tree is different and it takes longer to get to certain tech targets, some missions are harder to accomplish. You may instead wish to play your dread lords campaign with the original dread lords tech tree, eventhough it will not look as good and lacks certain features...

PS: I'd advise playing the sandbox instead, I personally find it to be much more fun!
