Minor update to v1.1a, had a file that was causing a mini dump. its been tested and is now working.  Sorry about that.

 

Updated the mod with the latest fix to make the mod compatible with update v1.1

OK, here is the mod some of you were wanting to remove the Novalith Cannons.  this mod turns them into Ion Cannons for all three races.

This Mod is for use for those who like myself, hate the dreaded Novalith Cannons in the game.  This mod turns regular Novalith Cannons, Phase Kotsura Cannon, and the Psionic Cannon into regular Ion Cannons capable of destroying smaller ships in one hit or causing damage to larger ships.

It should be there,  their site was slow at authorizing the mod, I just received an email this morning stating the mod had finally been approved.  you should see it now.  I just tested it and I did a download so it is working.

Not a problem, hope you like it.  let me know if you have any issueswith it.  I havent checked this version with the latest patch.  I use another mod that I made that completly rebalances the entire game and makes Capships much tougher along with many other changes.  The ions work in my mod so I belive these ones will work too with the latest version.

Eh, been about a month since this thread has seen activity, but I just wanted to note:

It's more sensible that it be range limited than phase line limited anyway.

This method does work.  You gotta specify some huge ranges, though.  With default map size settings (Star radius 100, scale 25k), just to get it to fire 1/4 of the way across the map (50 units), you're looking at a range of ~1.25 mil.  I've tested that it will allow a range of up to (at least, did not test further) 1 billion (at default settings, you're looking at 40k map units) without issue/crash.

For me, personally, this is a good solution.  I typically play VR and use their cannon quite regularly to get my fleet behind enemy lines (so don't want to convert all cannons to something else), but likewise, am annoyed by Tech's cannon.  However, I did find a good semi-counter to it.  Build a starbase and give it enforced loyalty.  At least that way I don't have to recolonize and redevelop the planet every time.  I just lose some tax income.

Anyone managed to get this working with the latest patch of sins? Minidumps are starting to get even more annoying than novalith cannons... :(
