Probably they want you to win the game eventually. ;) But there are mods that turn them off. I know there is one for Rebellion, I'm sure there is one for Diplomacy too, its just been buried in the forums.

Also FYI one of the biggest complaints about the AI was that it never used Superweapons until Diplomacy 1.3... you just can't please everyone it seems.

I am in the 'don't want ********* super weapons' camp.  I have searched and searched for a way, or a mod to disable super weapons for Diplomacy but have had no success.

Why on earth did they not make this optional from the game menu?  They really lost the plot on this one. ;)

Well, here's the one for Rebellion. If you want to recreate it for Diplomacy, find a copy of the reference files and copy the PlayerTech.entity, PlayerPsi.entity, and PlayerPhase.entity files. Then find your mod folder and make a new folder. In that folder make a folder called "GameInfo". Paste those three files in there. Then open them in notepad, and go to the section near the top called "researchInfo". Reduce the count under it by 1, and then find "RESEARCHSUBJECT_PLANETMODULEACCESS_CANNON" in the list. Delete that entire line and save the file. Do it to all three, and it will get rid of the research to access super weapons, making them unbuildable.

Thanks a lot GeoFan, I will be following your instructions forthwith. Rep+

UPDATE: Do you mean delete the lines like this one that contain the word cannon?

entityDefName "RESEARCHSUBJECT_PLANETMODULEACCESS_CANNONxxxxx"

Ha-har. :D

I loaded up my game after activating the mod, and at first thought it hadn't worked, as the missile was still fired towards my planet.  But then half way to it's destination the missile blinked out and my population was saved.

Looks like it works.  Me very ********* happy now. :D

Hmm, I'm actually surprised it worked on a save game. Though you'd need to start a new one for it to work, but good to hear.

Now that would be a cool use for the deliverance engine--when fired it reverses incoming superweapons back to the firer,

I had a save just after the bomb went off and my planet was dead and a autosave that was just before or during the super missiles flight, because it hard to say at what time it is reported to me.

The bomb got half way across the screen and then disappeared and that was it.  I hate to start a new game as I was doing pretty well, but it makes sense to do so, I guess.

wow i didnt think the mod would work on a save game either.

i can assure you that if you start a new game, you wont even see the cannons on the research tree, nor can they be built by ANYONE/AI.

Sigh..........WHY would you want to make the game even easier for yourself? super weapons are easily countered.

Easy, where is easy?  There is no easy in this game.  The daft devs don't understand what the word 'easy' means.  Easy is not in their vocabulary nor their dictionary.

They have no understanding what-so-ever of the word 'easy', so for those that wish to play it on easy then, sorry but you are clean out of luck.

Just for the daft devs.  Having a easy mode means allowing the casual player to play, and win with comparative ease.  Comprehenday?  :p

For me anything below vicious is easy mode.

At the moment I am playing a game where 3 vicious AIs are allied against me. Now that is what I call hard. 1 is advent 1 vasari 1 TEC and my planets are getting bombarded by super weapons all the time.

since when was playing against AI ever hard? superweapons? pah! death to the infidels! The only game I played where AI gives me a hard time is Warcraft 3 (cause i tend to just play custom/use map settings games) and Starcraft Brood war after they updated the AI.

No reason to be mean guys, saying how easy the AI is for you. Some people really don't want to play this game to win. They want to watch it. That's one of the great things about Sins, you can zoom in and watch the ships on their own every now and then while you're playing the game, and if you could have won the game three hours ago or played against an AI three levels harder so what? That's not why you're playing the game. You could have played Starcraft instead if that's what you wanted. You're playing to watch the pew pew, to slowly watch your Empire grow from a single planet to the entire solar system. And I could see how superweapons might ruin that for some people, even if that's not exactly why I play.

I like watching the ships shoot the ever loving crap outta each other, I don't think I have ever actually seen the AI build a superweapon, but then i don't remember putting them harder than the hard or sometimes vicious difficulty.

They actually ruin it for skilled players as well...it was already bad enough that the AI was a cakewalk, relying on cheats to even remotely present itself as a challenge...but with the early rush of superweapons, the cheating AI makes the situation only worse...

If you were to play against an unfair or cruel AI from diplomacy, but you would be facing ship production rates greater than a human player could have...pushes on HWs that normally would succeed in MP would utterly fail in SP simply because of the resources bonus the AI would get...however, investments in SBs that would get you killed in MP could be your saving grace in SP...when going against high level AIs, one simply had to adopt "lame" strategies like SBing every planet or milking the XP with a fleet of only capital ships...

Superweapons just make things worse...it forces you to entrench even more, and widens the gap between what works in SP and what works in MP...it's to the point where playing against the AI is no fun, because it is so far from the capabilities of a human that it isn't even remotely the same...you used to be able to play a 1v2 against two unfairs and still have some fun because it was kind of like being tag teamed by two noobs...it wasn't perfect, but it was more like MP than going against a vicious and simply SBing everywhere or milking the XP with your caps...

But now with superweapons, even the unfair AI basically makes the lame turtling strategy king....it's not just annoying, it's boring...I don't want to be SBing my planets with auxilary government 15 minutes into the game....it ain't a matter of skill or "knowing the right strategy"...it just plain isn't fun....I'm glad the AI now can use superweapons, but it makes the cheating they have that much more apparent....

Yeah, mainly I play the game like a story with a AI that gives me some reasonable compatition.  I like to watch the battles and progress of my coloneys.

I know I could play it clicky, twitch, clicky, but this type of highly competitive game-play doesn't rock my boat any more.

I don't want to spoil the game for others, all I am asking for,is a true easy mode and a ******** super weapon toggle.

hmm, i think i think i put in my mod a option to turn of super weapons, those things keep pumping up.

To some extent, I wouldn't say it "isn't a matter of skill or knowing the right strategy." Because it is knowing the right strategy and skills, just so far different from MP they do not correlate very well. Although I don't even find the different strategies upsetting, since without AI as is there'd might never be a place for turtling or small cap-only-ish fleets. Take the best of both worlds and do both.

I would not be against a smarter AI by any means. As usual, I'm am merely trying to present another side to the issue.

For me being skilled means that you respond fast and effectively to given situation. This definition goes beyond gaming world......

As for being skilled in SINS.

Objective of the game is to WIN. It doesn't matter how or whatever you do. If it means spam 200 corvettes or SB every planet you got. You have to evaluate situation and choose pat that will get you to victory.

as for SBing every world against vicious ai. Yes AI is stupid but they do know how to overwhelm star base and simply upgrading hull and weapons wont work......

Easy AI's once you learn how to play the game (I'm not trying to offend anyone, but in all honesty...) are exactly that.  The AI has quirks that make it very stupid.  Humans can micro whereas the AI only autocasts.  The AI really is pretty dim-witted.  On top of that easy mode really is.  On that difficulty, the AI gets half as much resources as you do for a given structure or planet.  You took something that wasn't capable of conscious thought and gimped it.

I'm not trying to be mean here.  When I first started playing, I did suck against the easy AI.  Then I got on the forums and started reading the strategy section.  Within days I could beat the normal pretty reliably.

Nowadays, if I feel like playing a game with zero challenge, I play hard.  If I want a game with some challenge, I play against unfair.  If I want a real challenge, I just go on MP because I'd rather be beaten by a sentient human than a machine that gets 6x more resources than me and can research things before it even has the labs up.
