Is Diplomacy Impossible Now?

Whenever I try to get a cease fire going with anyone now, it just seems impossible. I use multiple envoys and give them money until I max out the resources given bonus, and my relationship was around 7 or so and I still don't have the option for a cease fire. Am I doing something wrong?

No relationships go both ways so look on the relationships screen and see what theirs towards you is, you need to give them missions and hope they send envoys to get it up

yes and it is so annoying because AI rarely use envoys .

I just checked it and I was around -10 for both. I gave them a bunch of missions but I couldn't even get past negative. I guess it is pretty much impossible now unless they send envoys, great.

Some factions really hate one another which makes it extraordinarily difficult to make alliances with them, even with all the tech researched. A few combinations will be nearly impossible, even with a filled diplomacy tech tree. You must avoid war with the faction at all costs to make sure that you don't lose diplomacy for military action.

If you find that your relationship with them is high enough but theirs is not with yours, you can give them missions to give the mission relationship bonus to them as long as you have the mission tech researched. The "kill ships" mission and the "give resources" mission both work, but the resources takes less time for the AI to fulfill and gives the AI an extra bonus for resources given. Envoys don't work very well during the stage of trying to make an alliance as they die often and the death of the ship loses diplomacy points.

I don't believe they start sending envoys until you have a cease fire. You can actually get them to send them faster after the cease fire by using the "send envoy" mission, but that mission is only available to give after the cease fire. Once you get the cease fire, things should become much easier.

I hope this helped you, and good luck.

The problem in this game with envoys is, you need a cease fire before you/ they can send envoy's without being shot at.

Envoys should increase your chances to get a ceasefire, not have to wait for one to send envoy's.

I never seem to have this problem. I completely ignore other races in the beginning and eventually someone comes along and offers a trade alliance and I accept because, hey, money! Then some other race will annoy me by trying to attack my frontier worlds or launching FU bombs at my planets and I'll rustle up a space posse and go kick their ass and suddenly I'm getting likes and friend requests out the wazoo....which I begrudgingly accept. Truthfully I hate everyone but I have to give people the appearance that I'm at least somewhat sociable.

Then the diplo ships come, making my perfectly unicolored worlds unpure with the peppering of their filthy colors...and then I don't know why, but I feel guilted into sending my own envoys. And then it happens, we find ourselves laying in the same bed watching kung-fu movies and bickering over whose turn it is to take out the trash.

The time for diplomacy is over... so why is all that diplomacy pact crap in the game?  Rhetorical.  I think Entrenchment is far better than Diplomacy.

This is actually pretty close to the truth. The best way to get a cease fire with someone is to blow up a lot of ships of someone they don't like. Research the relation modifier bonuses ASAP and try to get that trade agreement up for a slowly growing trade bonus. If you have at least 4.5 relations with them but they don't quite like you enough for a ceasefire, send them resources. Its a very fast way to get them high enough. Once you have that cease fire, then send your envoys.

That said, in Rebellion Diplomacy did get quite a bit harder. There is a new faction diplomatic modifier. For a few like the unofficial alliance of TEC Loyalists, Advent Rebels and Vasari Rebels, this can be slightly positive with each other. On the other end of the Spectrum, you have the TEC Rebels who absolutely hate almost everyone, up to -10 with the Advent and Vasari, which makes it almost impossible for them to ally with a non TEC faction. Also the points required for a cease fire got increased to 4.5 from 3.5 for some reason.

i just make it easier and quicker by starting the game off with alliances already done and just keep teams unlocked to make diplomacy worth it still

Any time I try a FFA with AIs, it always ends the same way:

-I kill a neighbour

-This pleases another AI

-We ally and double-team everyone else for an easy win

I realize it's probably difficult to implement proper diplomacy in a RTS and I doubt I could have done any better, but honestly it's better to just play with locked teams and not have to deal with easily exploited AI diplomacy.  Leave the diplomacy for turn-based games.

I have my own experiences with FFA with AIs.  I'll ally with everyone, but they wont ally with each other.  I pretty much end up deciding which ally to turn on and then go crush them, and repeat the process until the game is done.  That 1:30 delay after breaking a peace treaty is great for getting your fleet set up to just blast your former ally to oblivion.

Trade should be chanced to Civic Diplomacy or something like that where Envoys, Missionaries, and Trade/Refinery ships are immune to fire. Diplomacy needs a slight rework.

You spam them with "send 100 Metal" missions and send back the same amount of metal right after.  Never fails for me, it's like they complete the mission the moment I send it to them.

I have done some Multiplayer games with a friend with alliances locked with me allied to said friend.  We know that different races do not like each other and there are numerous factors that go into how the Diplomatic back-and-forth, but even late in games with all the diplomatic research done, we cannot seem to get each other above a 12 relationship.  To get higher than 12 (to do more/better pacts) do we need to offer each other more missions, use more than 1 Envoy, or something else we are missing?

You need to use more than one envoy. When you set teams, everyone on that team has 10 relations with each other, no matter how much they'd hate each other normally (if its not locked teams it will start at ten but can then go lower). With locked teams, envoys are the only thing that can boost relationship beyond ten. Each envoy can increase your relations with another player by up to 2, so that's why you're getting stuck at 12. To get to say 18, you'll need three more envoys, with each envoy at a different planet.

Ahhh that explains it. I was even planning on trying to send more envoys the next time we played. Thanks for your help!

please enlighten me, i play in locked teams and always get my relationship with AIs to 20.00 while the AIs currently 10.00 to me.thing is why the hell i can't offer pacts with em like sins diplomacy?

is sins rebellion demanding that BOTH sides have 20.00 to each other not just one side with 20.00 to enable pacts?
