Visiting the Skinning Community

I did a thread a while back (2009) about visiting the many skinning sites in the WinCustomize Community.  Back then I was able to find a list of sites by going to the WinCustomize Help page, clicking on Community and clicking on Community Site Index.  Unfortunately that list is no longer available.  I'm sure it was dropped because some or most of those sites changing their location or just closing.

Well that just won't cut it folks, we need a list of available sites that are either home base for the skinners in the community or where they upload their skins besides WinCustomize.  So if you know of sites, are owners, admins or mods of sites how about replying and providing links.  We know you are out there vStyler, LightStar, andi18 and..........

Okay folks we now have 16 links listed above.  I maybe wrong but links #10 and #16 look like search engines rather than sites to me.

Are there more?  How about http://customize.org/

Would be nice to see some feedback on the links.

equating him to the actions of quite a few at DA and classifying him as "one bad apple" is not at all accurate. He is the head honcho there I believe. I find it a complete insult to this list to have VC being a part of it.

Did anyone ever like http://www.virtualplastic.net/ ? It used to be one of my faves - still up, but no activity - but it was a very interesting read (regarding all it's win9x customization info) at the time.

Come on guys, not everyone on either of those sites is bad. Are you gonna condemn Xiandi for doing a winstep for a guy on VC. Jeez....

OMFG... Let me put it in simple fucking english for you.

Mr Grimm ( the ripper ) is THE HEAD ADMIN at VC. This would be just like Brad being a confirmed ripper here.

THAT association in itself makes VC a bad site (not all the people there) and is NOT the same as a ripper (user) being at DA.

I don't understand what the argument's about. I'm thinking you both agree about the "main dud" there. As for the rest of them? Who has time for those who aspire to such "creativity"?

I'm equally sure all of us with a love of skinning want to do just that -

skin: verb (used with object):

16. to strip or deprive of skin; flay; peel; husk.
17. to remove or strip off (any covering, outer coating, surface layer, etc.).

Just to be clear here... I did the Winsteps for someone who uploads to VC, but that does not make him a ripper just because he frequents there. I actually got a request to do those from someone on the Winstep forums anyway. Someone who was not the author wanted them. I had to go through that person to get the files and permission from the original author.

I do not consider anyone a ripper until they prove themselves to be one. Just because the head guy is an asshat, does not mean everyone there is.

Jim...when your make statements like that after a quote make damn sure your clear on who actually made that statement or condemned Cindi. I never said that and I know damn well Cindi would never knowingly do that. No one here has cornered the Winstep skinning gallery and Cindi is free to skin for whoever she chooses. And I may be wrong but I don't think anyone else here even mentioned Cindi other than you.

Ah....like it or not, the world of skinning has 'bad eggs'.  I've seen "one or two" over the years....shown 'our' door to most of them, too, but the reality is....they're there, all the same.

Some actively ignore issues of property rights....but mostly those we may find disfavor with are simply ignorant and/or naive.

 

Such is life....and we can only each do 'what we can' to promote better attitudes/respect towards others' property rights.

Giz, I'm sorry the quote system here isn't the greatest. We know you said nothing bad about Cyn. Neither did I.

 

 

I am the only one to mention Cyn. I was pointing out, again, that one bad apple don't make the whole site bad. Of course, I was later enlightened to the fact that MrGrim owns the site...my bad.

 

 

We might just let this die? Old news, etc.....  ;)
