I'm going to buy fallen enchantress, some what because of the banners. i haven't clicked on any of the banners but it was a reminder ; "hey, I like Sins. I'll more than likely like this as well." i think the adds are fine. there for "in company" products. if they where for other companies or products outside of gaming, i could see a larger group of people having a negative response. but being upset about a banner announcing a release of one of your games. Is like, calling the space ships in your forums background "aggressive marketing"
i think a problem with advertising you all face is ; We as casual gamers, hardcore, and in-between gamers are over saturated with advertisement. you can't watch tv or even a you tube video with out having to redundantly watch a commercial for a over stimulating, Michael bay style power fantasy game. You can't look at a "video game news" sight with out all the flashing adds reminding you that epilepsy is a thing. Web sights and other media outlets that talk about games, dont make them. they have no product. there for, ALL of there income is generated by adds. i would think their some cause to add exhaustion. "hey, listener / viewer/ reader! we have a face space page! and you can buy your clothes from here! and you can shop here! and did we mention we have a launch starter!"
another issue some consumers may not be awarer of is the add credibility gap. larger company's use add over saturation too there advantage. the more add dollars you spend, the more a product is in the customers face, the more credible and validated your product is to the consumer. reversely, any company that can not spend that same amount of add dollars looses product credibility.
"if it was as good as this "call of warfare" why am i not seeing commercials for it every five seconds?" Or
"there using banner adds. they must be doing some kind of scam. this doesn't look legit because i haven't seen it on tv to validate it"
the larger companies have done such a good job, It's possible that by the time we get to your adds, frustration from too many adds is projected onto you or others.
probably the big thing to take away from this is : Adds sell video games. If you want to make video games , you have to sell video games.
i think i heard one of you on a podcast (some time ago) say that you had 9 people working on Sins. i wouldn't call you guys a indy developer or a large developer. i would call you guys a "family developer". I'm not being all sappy. what i mean by that is, your not making a "product" your making "passion projects" the fact that your able to hire people, put food in the fridge, and pay the electric bill wile doing what you like is a really cool thing. passion projects deserve a different approach than products with targeted mass market appeal.
I've enjoyed listening to the podcast you guys have been on as guest. please do more if you can ( i know, lots of enthusiast press lacks quality and credibility, but the one you all have been are be for where pro) I'm thinking of 2. i cant really promote web sights on others forums. at least not in this post. i wish there was a Sins podcast or something close.
