My Rebellion experiance + feedback

Would firstly like to start this post off by saying that I've been a long term sins fan, since vanilla sins and it's easily my favorite game. Hats off to Ironclad :)

Now onto Rebellion. I like what I see so far, I put off playing the game until I finished my last exam and have only had a couple of play throughs as TEC rebels and Vasari Loyalists.

TEC rebels I found to be perfect, the titan is a vehicle of pure hatred and I love how it lights up with overcharge and starts smashing an enemy fleet apart left right and center. The ability to ally with the rebels and pirates makes them a great offensive faction.

I liked the idea behind the Vasari loyalist faction but think they need some work. The attitude behind them seems to be "we really don't have time for this s*** anymore and are just going to go through you". However, their titan didn't punch as hard as I think it should. I didn't really use the in system jump ability, apart from to chase stragglers down. On the other hand I found maw hilarious (in a good way) when it just inhaled a chunk of the enemy fleet and gave me cash. I don't really get how desperation works, can somebody explain? The ability to spawn a phase stabilizer was really nice as you could keep pouring reinforcements into the battle but think the cool down needs to be reduced somewhat.

I'd like to see the titan act as sort of a "maintains your fleet size whilst reducing theirs", so although it may not be able to stand up to another titan it would be a a formidable foe with a supporting fleet. Maw and fleet beacon fit into this perfectly but I think in system jump should be replaced with a weapon ability of some sort. An idea I had would be called "experimental phase missiles" which would launch a small volley of phase missiles packing nuclear payloads, that upon detonation on the hull would do enough damage to wipe out unlucky frigates and cruisers but give capital ships a serious head ache. If they detonate on the shield they just take that offline, keeping that ship in play.

I'd also like to see the last weapon upgrade on the titan give it access to normal phase missiles (so a fifth weapon system) as I can't believe that the vasari wouldn't fit their most effective weapon systems on their death machine.

Something else that I thought could be quite nice for the loyalists is a research option for the siege frigate, replacing their siege lasers with a diminished version of the level 6 death egg ability, where they suck up resources from the planets instead of bombing them relentlessly. However, it should slow down the planet capture process and not work as well as the death eggs ability. It would fit in nicely with the lore of the loyalists desperately scrounging as many resources as quickly as possible at any opportunity.

Disagreed about the Micro Phase Jump. Its meant to work in combo with the Maw, you teleport toward enemy fleet and kill it... its IMHO very well designed and i hope it does not get changed one bit.

BTW i dont get the Desperation entirely too. Obviously its reducing the damage the Titan takes from enemy fleet, Additionaly it increases weapon cooldown, here i am not sure whether the percentage is dependent only on the actual level of the ability, or it scales with the number of ships shooting at the Titan (up the percentage number, capped by the current ability level). Finally what does the "Damage" and red number "20 -> 30" (for example) means? Is this related to that splash damage? What about the range of the ability? Does it mean that only fire from enemy ships in that radius is projected into that damage reduction?

This is actually one of the biggest weaknesses in Sins, the infocards are on lot of topics very vague, sometimes borderline useless.

I agree with decreased cooldown of the fleet beacon ability and the Phase Missiles at the top weapon level would be indeed nice.

Desperation was actually two separate abilities at one point, combined into one (I thought you played the Vasari early Timmaigh?), that's why its probably a bit unclear as it does many different things. First is that is always gives its weapon splash damage capabilities, much like the Kol, giving it extra damage against clustered opponents (great for corvettes). That small damage reduction is also always active, which is fairly straight forward. The weapon cooldown buff is applied when the titan takes damage and lasts 10 seconds, and it stacks up to 15 times, so if your titan is getting focus fired or you're fighting a lot of flak/illuminators you can basically expect to max this out at 15%/30%/45%/60%.

Oh, thank you, still some things are unclear. I did play Vasari on earlier version and i know there was Suffusion - giving  the splash damage and Desperation - doing the rest. But that rest was not clear to me before as well.

So again -

splash damage is added by automatically by choosing Desperation lvl 1, has no cooldowns nor is influenced by anything else - does it somehow improve by leveling? When we are at it, what is the difference between Splash and AoE btw?

damage reduction is obvious

weapon cooldown - it lasts 10 seconds - then what? when does it "reactivate" again? still dont know what does that "damage 20 to 30, then 30 to 40 means - its written in red, that usually means its losing it or not?  and finally what about the radius, what exactly is affected by it?

Again, like the Kol and Kortul, its a buff applied even time a target gets hit by normal weapons. The amount of damage increases every level, its what that red number is on the info card. Anything within 1500 "meters" of the target gets that extra damage when a nearby target gets hit.

Splash is technically a form of AoE, its just AoE is usually applied by a direct ability (Missile Barrage, Malice, Repair Cloud). For sins, splash implies an AoE damage buff on normal weapons fire, I.e. Finest Hour, Cluster Warheads, and now Desperation are the only ones that have it. A couple of others apply their buffs when a target gets hit by a weapon, like incendiary shells and disruptive strike, but they do different effects, not AoE damage.

When it gets hit again. Every time the titan gets damaged by normal weapons the weapon cooldown applies. It just can't stack more than 15 times, giving you that cap I listed. Less pretend we had 15 frigates that fired their weapons ever 10 seconds against the titan simultaneously. The titan would always be at the stacking cap, or at level 1 +15% cooldown. If one of those frigates were destroyed, then after 10 seconds only 14 weapons would impact the titan, so the buff would be reduced to 14%. This allows the buff to slowly increase or decrease depending on the amount of weapon fire hitting the titan, but in large battles you can probably count on it being close to maximum.
