Get WOM now, or wait for FE?

It is stil 39$!

Hey there, just wanted to get you guys advice on that. I know it has probably been asked before, but I couldn't find what I was looking for using the search.

Elemental WOM is still 39,95$, but it does look awesome, and there is still no release date for FE.

So what do you think, is there much of an improvement in FE? Is it more like a sequel or an expansion? Should I wait? I'm actually really digging Gal Civ 2 presently, so I'm really curious about elemental...

This is just my personal opinion: Elemental is not worth playing, Fallen Enchantress's Beta is already one of the best XXXX games I have played.  If there's a way to get into the beta by pre-ordering/buying either, do it.

If you pre-order Fallen Enchantress you get into the Beta as well. Get FE.

FE is essentially an improved version of Elemental. There are some features that has been cut, but it's mostly a good thing. So despite it still being in beta, you should just preorder FE instead of buying Elemental.

Pre-order FE instead of getting E:wom. It is improved in every way.

The current beta of FE is 10 times what E:wom is. I play this beta for FUN, it made me stop playing Skyrim.

Be warned for some people the beta crashes all the time...

I haven't played EWoM, I would but people in here thinks its rubbish so I am not gonna bother spending the money :)

Ewww, most of people posting said that FE is improve of WOM is mistake and wrong, it's diffent game, though it's might simlier but gameplay is not same as WOM, Personal, I find gameplay WOM better than FE, but there is nice stuff in FE, though. But I point out FE is not improve of WOM, it's just diffent game. Apple and Orange. If we talk about improve, FE might improve but again in some area fall in part, seem some WOM is better in area than FE, WOM you can had lot of hero, they respwan while FE do not, same for monster, in WOM you able to reseach and cast spell if all, in FE it's rare, you unable to reseaching everything, in fact very limited, you might not cast lot, it's lot of mana and you can't had everything in FE, you can build everything in building in WOM but you can't do that in FE, though FE you don't need to build more than one same building, but you can't had every kind of building in FE, WOM city level up gave you more gold or mana or free unit while FE gave you building of level, is why I don't like since too limited and you can't build everything like in real world like garden. As for level hero, it's same, but FE .912 is lot better of level but they nerf and bring back to same. I do not think WOM is a rubbish but great game, but however since I had 64 bit window 7, it's crashed once a while, annyod me, but no problem so far in FE Beta, few crash. FE might be better in some area than WOM but some gameplay in WOM is better than FE. In WOM you get marrage while in FE you don't. So it's not same game...

Edit: Personal, I would like to had refund from FE as I don't like where FE going. It's seem more bad than good.

Edit: WOM is good game to FE, good to bad, fall in part, way I see, I am not mood to test this game and get tired of this, too limted, bored, and annyod.

Change is not always good or better, Note to itself, FE is changed game, not improved, that is diffent.

EFE is the same price I think.  Buy EFE, it is much better than WOM in every way.

The only way I would ever encourage you to get E:WoM would be if you were buying E:FE and it came for free.

It is essentially a proof-of-concept for the engine that E:FE is using. FE has it's quirks and infuriating "features" but even in beta it is ten times the game. When it is done, it will probably be thirty times.

I'm surprised we have one poster on here that thinks War of Magic is the superior game. Fallen Enchantress is better in every way than WoM (except the exclusion of the dynastic system, but mods will take care of that). You could have a small amount of fun with WoM, especially with the After the War mod, but maybe get bored/frustrated/sick of it after a week. FE in its beta state will keep you hooked for much longer.

There is no indication that the WOM tree will be worked on or updated.  FE is the new game and further expansions will likely be solely for FE, or standalone.  FE is a much more enjoyable game than WOM was to play.  You wouldn't know it from the descriptions of the game or screen shots, but WOM's elements never really came together and it leaves the game with a slightly unsatisfying dynamic.  FE has been a much tighter build and while WOM did not have the replayability of Gal Civ 2, it's looking like FE will.

Personally, I didn't think that WOM was as bad as everyone makes it out to be, and found it to be fairly enjoyable to play - however I'll be the first to admit that FE is a much better thought out game/build, and replayability has thus far been a whole lot better.

If I were putting down cash today, it would be FE, hands down.

As a quasi-side note....  I've actually been spending most of my gaming time playing the new Sins of a Solar Empire expansion: Rebellion.  It's still in beta ($40, or $30 if you have any sins games already).  It's all of the Sins + expansion material to date, with some cool new stuff on top of it.  It might be up your alley if you like 4x games (and Sins isn't turn based, it's real time).

Hope this helps,

Get FE and the FE beta, unless you have a wonky internet connection (the beta uses online activation each time, the retail version won't- standard Stardock policy).

I can spend 4 hours of fun on FE at times.  I didn't get 4 hours of fun out of WOM in over a year - it was play some, realize the game isn't fun, hear about patch, hope it fixed things, realize it didn't.  .913 patch was really when this game started to turn a corner into something that could be great.

Thankfully it was just one bad game, FE is Stardock going back to form (and the game, in its current state, is nearly as good as Twilight, and will likely end up better)

Yes, I rather off buy Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion than this game if you love space stuff and real time, but however, only if you didn't had a old sin of solar empire, It's would be wise to play this game before you buy if your friend had this game for you to try out.

P.S I did tell why I like WOM gameplay better than FE, I did tell a good reason, a limited gameplay like you can't build every kind of building in this FE, though I do like you not need to build more than one same kind of building. You can't had magic everything even you reseached due to random and had to get quest, and not alway quest gave you spell you need.

No respwan hero or monster in this FE,

stone wall for city had been removed for Kingdom.

Full army like squae tech now removed in .915,

Leveling for sovgain in .912 is so fun replay for me that now .914 leveling had be nerf and you can't grow stronger than 12 to 14 level.

Now I had no desire to play replay game because all I said reason in adove, personal I don't understand why some said it's better and improve when it's not to me. After .915 changedlog, I just want refund, so I will had to talk to stardock and want money back as I don't like where this game going.

Edit: Basic on patch and all that, all they do is changed, mostly removed, add some though little improved in some area, but major are not improved, but rather removed or changed FE game over WOM.

The biggest difference in the two games is the combat system. FE is far superior. WoM also does not have traits when leveling.

It could be the language barrier that I am having trouble with, but I don't think Humility is making any decent points about how FE is in any way inferior to WoM. I am not sure what "full army like square tech" means for instance. Not being critical, I just don't understand what you mean.

There are some balancing problems, but much of them are being addressed and if you liked .912 but hate .914, you might wait until .917 and see where the game is. They are obviously trying new ideas out. Not all of them are going to be great. For instance, heroes only level to about 15 in most games. That seems low, but before you could be level 30. By that time your hero is pretty much invincible. 15 is too low, but 30 is too high. Welcome to the beta process. Maybe 20 is best? The problem I have is that a level 5 hero can kill a level 10 hero if he has better items. 90% of a hero's power comes from loot. That is not right.

FE is a work in progress. WoM is done. There is a constant flow of new features coming in for FE and we are still very far away from a release date. Even after the release we can expect lots of big additions to the game, like multiplayer and seafaring. After that there is an expansion coming. WoM will always be what it is. I still enjoy it from time to time, but FE is simply more engaging.

As far as what I understand to be Humility's biggest qualms with FE, they things that are easily modded to fit his personal playstyle. One thing I am doing is making some quests that add monsters to the land like we had in WoM. I agree that there are some things from WoM that I really like. There are many many more features in FE that I like better.

Here are some mod tips for Humility to enjoy the game more:

-Increase the number of shards or mana we get from shards to have more magic in the game.

-Increase the number of heroes by doubling them in the xml and changing the names.

-Increase how many spawn per tile.

-Decrease the XP needed for leveling.

All stuff you can change on your own. It seems like many of these complaints are personal preference. Like spells coming from quests and items. I would say that it adds some much needed replayability to the game. If you have every spell in every game, it soon becomes too predictable and boring. I prefer much of the game to have random elements so that no game plays exactly like the ones I have played before.

Ok thank you all for your answers. I will definitly wait for FE release then, as I don't like to play betas, and there are way too much games for me to play right now. I won't be getting WOM, as pretty much everyone here seems to think FE is better and easier to get into.

As for Sins Of A Solar Empire, I guess I should give it a second chance (I tried it once or twice), but right now I really am in a turn based mood. I still play Sup Com FA from time to time, so I guess I would be  able to get into it as well.

Thank you all.

Yes, that's would be wise move, I'm playing Stronghold Kingdom and do like this game (Stronghold Kingdom, not FE). It's free, though pay might speed thing up little bit.

Edit: Truth to be told, I don't play sins of solar empire  Rebellion Beta very much even thoug I did paid it, I did play lot, testing, mod of FE in .912 and before of that, after .913 at least, not want to play game anymore and tired working on mod, not to be mood each time upgarde come, I had to mod start all over, I'm not mood to play that anymore, as some turn me off too much and go too far.
