where to go after wheel of time and game of thrones(A Song of fire and ice) series

Title says it all. Are there any other fantasy series of the same quality?

Someone mentioned Robin Hobb, and the Assasin and Tawny Man series are in my top 10 as far as favorites (didn't like the Live Ships all that much though).  I only bring this up because her Soldier Son trilogy is also very good.  Definitely something unique and and different.

And regardless of what someone else stated about Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, it most certainly is worth a read.  It too is a very unique tale, and it's what convinced me to try Mistborn, which immediately made it into my top 10 list of all time.

WhiteElk, reply 42A Memory of Light is nearly here (01/08/13)! i'd pre-ordered months ago. Over twenty years following this story. Will conclude with over 4 million words written. As spoken, that's about 420 hours of audio-tape. Epic. Is nearly here!

Oh yeah, will be taking the day off work to finish that thing... feel like a kid who's told he's going to the candy store!
Indeed! ...but "the day"?!? You gonna read that fat tome (~360,000 words) in a day!?! :) It's one of the biggest. i'm gonna savor this! Is tough to slow it down cuz each new book i want to blaze through, and this final one will press me even more. But i'll be savoring it over weeks as best i can. The big prologue is online, but i'm even saving that for the book.

If i hadn't just reread them all last winter, i'd be doing it again before Memory arrives. Lost count of how many times i've reread these books. i do still have A New Spring (prequel) yet unread, got it with the pre-order. Am undecided if i'll read it before or after. Am working on a sci-fi trilogy now (The Night's Dawn trilogy by Peter Hamilton). And have a friends book she's anxious for me to read.

i'm excited about this! So close now!! What a series!!

I was mainly suggesting not to judge Sanderson on the basis of that book. He gets a lot better.

He can write, he is masterful at plotting... but there are things that let Elantris down: The domestics, social setting etc are 'off'. It did read like someone from Utah imagining a feudal/early modern world and not really getting it.

You wouldn't get that impression from Stormlight Archive.

I should add here that the Stormlight Archive also combines all the other series together, although it's somewhat subtile.  There's a minor background subplot involving a character that keeps reappearing in every fantasy book being chased by a mysterious group of people made up of characters from his other fantasy settings.  The big bad of this series is also related to the big bad of the Mistborn series.

Its better, especially since Sanderson actually writes for a living and completes his books in a reasonable amount of time. Where as George RR Martin's occupation consists of going to Nerd Cons and watching football all day long, and as a hobby he occasionally writes.
