No, I'm not complaining.....

Guys and gals, I need your help.

Firstly, this thread isn't about the star rating, I'm not complaining about not getting downloads, etc....

 

What does concern me is that lately my DX skins are getting poor ratings.

I don't get very many comments on my DX skins either.

 

Now, what concerns me is I'd like to know what isn't liked about my work, and/or, are there bugs that aren't being reported?

 

I will gladly try to fix any issue if I'm made aware that there is one.

 

Lack of comments makes me think it all works correctly.

 

So, I guess what I'm saying is, if you rate my work low, please tell me why in the comments. If you feel better about it, tell me in a PM.

 

I just want to be sure that things are working correctly. I DO skin for me, ultimately, and again, I'm not crying that I don't like my ratings. I use the ratings as a gauge for whether or not I'm doing it right.

 

To have poor ratings but no comments appears like something is wrong.

 

Please comment, good or bad. Not just my skins, but everyones. That's what it's for.

Your harshest critic should be....yourself. That Wizbang probably gives you more grief than anyone else. Relax and hey... you're a Master, for shit's sake. Just add a "Constructive comments will be attended to." [Jafo'll fix the English].

The Snowman wouldn't do that... he doesn't want the thread to "Go South"... speaking of snow and 'south' ... I noticed this line forming this morning...

and I think the reason the poles are melting is those guys are 'hot' to rate your skins... and understand as much about making a skin as those who gave them low ratings.

Based on observation, I'd think that's generally reasonable (though I guess not absolutely, based on post 8).

Here I think you might be over-thinking things.

 

I suppose you could put some variation of this in an uploads opening comments, worded carefully so you're not fishing for insults:

if you rate my work [deleted], please tell me why in the comments.  I just want to be sure that things are working correctly.  I will gladly try to fix any issue if I'm made aware that there is one.

Jim, nobody likes to see their work rated poorly but that is part of life on Wincustomize. I have tried to learn to look at the amount of downloads and forget about the ratings. People here, as a rule, have gotten far too sensitive and some throw a hissy fit if you try to leave a constructive comment so the natural tendency, to keep the peace, is to not say anything unless it is positive. If you are happy with your work and it is being downloaded than just be happy. I have asked for constructive criticism in the past and it seems to fall on deaf ears! Go in peace. Again....the point of the thread is being missed, entirely.

 

The thread isn't about ratings, it's about getting input from the community as to whether a skin has bugs, (hey, it's DX, of course it does....lol) or not.

 

And a bit of "If you rate, comment to reflect your rating" mode of thinking.

 

 

Maybe I should just make what I like, and not care if it works on other PCs, but that ain't how I roll...lol.  ;P

After re-reading this entire thread, I guess it could read like I'm bitching about ratings, but I really don't mean it like that. I should have known what this kind of thread leads to, not like I'm new here...hehehe.

 

Anyway, I will try to consider the comments made by all you friends here in this thread in the helpful spirit in which they were made.

If a skin doesn't work, someone will mention it.  There's not much else you can do, people come to download skins and move on.

Usually I comment only when I really like the skin but for me it not succeded anymore to be able to rate any skin maybe because I'm only an Apprentice

anyway my humble suggestion to have more comments is : LET THE VISITORS TO COMMENT as in my experience 90% of the downloads are from visitors and at the moment they are untitled to comment or to rate ;)

Jim...you should know by now that people's setups are going to be different and they may have something on their pc that doesn't play nice with DX...you can't possibly know what's on everyone else's computers so you can't please everyone...and if they don't tell you if something isn't working...it's not your problem. If someone has something wrong with any of the themes I've done I'll try and fix as long as I know there is a problem...but I don't lose any sleep over unknowns. ;)

I got the same problem. Not too too many comments on my skins but you know something, its all good. Ratings.....pshaw.....I rate 'em as I see 'em. One thing about me is I don't play favorites. If its good I say so if there's a bug I say so. I know Jim's work as I do most skinners here. Each to their own style. That's what is so unique about this site, we are a diverse group used to the ways, sometimes, of other skinners. How they approach a particular theme in their minds eye before the crayons come out and the doodling starts is, when you think about it, when the real magic begins. Don't need to cite examples, the galleries prove that. But getting back OT....I always comment on skins I dl, good or bad. My profile says I'm an easy critic. Thing is I go for the aesthetic value, what pleases my eye not so much the functionality. I understand functionality is important but if it doesn't look good on my screen then why use it.
