Stardock and Ironclad are pleased to release the latest update for the Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion BETA. Available now for all pre-order customers, this new version (0.90) includes a large number of gameplay changes, bug fixes and AI improvements.

  • Splash loading screen added to provide player feedback while assets are being loaded.
  • Added large debris pieces for all capital ships and titans (per race).
  • Shield shader updated slightly to make shields more visible (work-in-progress).
  • Fixed shield meshes on various titans.

  • TEC
    • Starbase Self Destruct ability updated:
      • Blast will now affect strike craft.
      • Range increased to 9000/14000.
      • Damage changed to 4000/9000.
    • Corsev Battlecruiser Balance Adjustments:
      • Max HP increased from 2978 to 3127.
      • Max Shields increased from 1218 to 1279.
      • Max Antimatter increased from 210 to 270.
      • Antimatter per level increased from 20.25 to 35.
      • Laser damage increased from 75 to 82.5.
      • Updated Laser weapon timing (visuals).
      • Overhauled Salvage Operations ability system. Should now properly give bonuses for Boarded and non-Boarded ships.

    • Iconus Guardian: Shield regeneration rate increased from 0.5 to 1.2.

    • Radiance Battleship Detonate Antimatter ability will now affect Titans, but will not disable Titan abilities.

        • Psionic Surge damage increased from 175 to 250.
        • Plasma damage increased from 95 to 135.
        • Aft Plasma bank removed (per design).
        • Targets per Bank changed from 4/3/2/2 to 4/4/3/3.
        • Reactive Containment ability updated per latest Titan stats.
          • Ability Cooldown bonus increased to 10%/15%/20%/25%.
        • Unity Armor ability updated per latest Titan stats.
        • Energy Manipulation ability bonus increased to 15%/25%/35%/45%.
      • Starbase constructors can no longer be restored via Return of the Fallen or Resurrection abilities.
  • Pirates
    • Pirate Reaper damage per bank decreased from 10 to 9.5.
    • Pirate Rogue damage decreased from 57 to 40.
    • Pirate Planet is now protected by Hangar Defense and Repair Bays.
    • Fixed crash caused by trying to give the Pirates a mission.
  • Fixed bug related to area of effect buffs.
  • Many string updates to make new techs easier to understand.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Occupation victories to fail.
  • Moons are now Dwarf Planets and have been made more unique (stat wise).


[ Interface ]

  • Splash loading screen added to provide player feedback while assets are being loaded.
  • Fixed bug related to group selecting a hangar and a titan factory.
  • Fixed duplicate unlock text on Titan research infocards.
  • Mesh ownership icons will now display for non-active player fleet leaders.
  • Fixed crash related in Pact buttons.

  • Fixed crash bug from applying Mods.
  • Removed Delete buttons from some menus. Deleting files can be done via the Manage Files screen.
  • Increased placementRadius value for all Titan factories; should now be more representative of actual size.

[ AI ]

  • Each AI type has been rebalanced to better match Rebellion. All AI player types will now construct more ships as a general rule.
  • AI players will now consider titans as capital ships when considering what ships to build.
  • AI players should now respond better to Occupation and Research victory types.
  • AI generally made more difficult across Normal difficulty and higher.
  • AI generally made easier on Easy difficulty level.
  • AI players should now always build ships and mixed fleets when appropriate.
[ Sound ]
  • Reduced volume on Unity Mass ability.
  • Fixed some Flagship victory event sound errors.

[ Modding ]

  • Fixed crash bug from applying Mods.
  • Added new aiUseTime OnlyWhenHullDamageExceeds.

[ Misc. ]

  • Fixed null pointer crash in Buff system.
  • Fixed crash bug from using Resurrection ability on a Flagship.
  • Fixed crash bug from applying Mods.
  • Fixed null pointer crash in PlayerAttackAI system.
  • Fixed crash caused by trying to give the Pirates a mission.
  • Fixed crash related in Pact buttons.

It causes your starbase to blow up and take the enemy with it. In theory anyway.

Argonev Starbase's "Safety Override Protocol/Last Resort" ability. It self destructs the starbase to deal damage to everything around it,

It was dubbed "big red button" because that's exactly what the icon is.

Much as ive scolded whiners about this I have to agree. We have already done a ton of testing on TEC and Advent. If we don't get Vasari soon they are not going to be tested or balanced well enough before release. Especially given how many truly game changing new things the Vasari factions can do. If we are not getting them this week (as seems obvious at this point), then i'd say it really needs to be next week.

its the TEC starbase self destruct that is capable of destroying entire endgame fleets with one blast.  Now it has no effecticte counter, from what I can tell(unless ogrovs, Vasari starbase and solanus with upgrades can outrange/outtank it).

You know how they're testing and how it's the most effective means.  Stop bitching about.  Besides, the game is still only .90.  Plenty of time before full release.

In reality, he is right. It's a bad strategy (merely thinking in logical and practical terms) to delay the introduction of the Vasari. People don't play as a job, but because it's fun.

Personally, I have stopped playing online 2 weeks ago.

There is one thing I'd like to mention about the Advent's Discord battleship.
Its behavior with regard to Psionic Scream and Fracture is way off.  
It prioritizes PS over Frac at all times.  
That means unless one babysits all Discords in battle, players lose out on a big chunk of what PS does.
The AI behavior needs to be changed so that PS won't be used unless nearby enemies are still under the effect of Fracture.

As for the TEC starbase, it should be a tad unbalanced.  You're losing a whole starbase to get it done, so it'd damned well better have a huge payoff.  As it stands, I've never once used it.  I just focus on making my starbases that much harder to kill because Big Red just wasn't worth it at all.  Now, it might be...MIGHT be.

The Vasari will be available when the rest has been balanced enough.  Besides, we all know already that there will probably be a few patches throughout the year after release as well.  We'll probably get the Vasari long enough to work the big bugs out, and that's it.  The rest will be covered in post-release patches like always.  I certainly hope the Vasari are available soon, but I still have to say that people are just being whiny about it.

Two two things that bother me and I hope that get addressed are:

1. Savage thrill and pillaged war chest do not display when they are "active" so its really hard to tell if these passive abilities are working properly or not. At the very least I can't see any noticeable increase in income or firing rates. These abilities I really like too because they fit the rebel tec very well lore wise.

2. The advents loyalist titan's mind control ability does not have a proper icon to show that its active or turned off.

I really only use the big red button on starbases ive put in uncolonizable territories, since I cant support them with other defenses. Otherwise i concentrate on making them harder to killl and supporting them with defenses. but when those unclolnizable territories are invaded with enough force, its a really nice ability to have. BOOM! :-)

Good thing they improved the AI. Also really like the buffed Adjudicator and Guardian ships. Keep up the good work!

Do want to see the mine problem fixed ASAP though. It is extremely annoying.

I dont see any reason to nerf advent titans here, actuarally i was expecting a buff,    those who play MP basically gets their Titan out between 30 -45 mins mark( on average). with current nerf advent  suffers greately,  a unite to withdtand medium fleet in mid-game.... donno how much does devs play mps on ico but advent was most difficult race to start up and now more nerf to it's core unite? how easy to counter titan rush with reasonable feed? some abilities should've been fixed long ago ( guardiance..ect) and it doesnt mean their fixed for game play wise. I'm surprised how advent got nerfed in this patch...... yeah late game high-tech advent kicks in, but who cares if u or ur team can't survive that long

The AI cheats by getting extra resources at any higher then lvl 4 difficulty.
