Can we have an option/slider that effects the resources around starting planets on random maps?

Can we have an option/slider that effects the resources around starting planets on random maps?

I like to pick random a lot and way back when in entrenchment and vanilla it was fun but from Diplomacy on more often than not I find myself with one or two planets near by and then a whole lot of junk. Planets, asteroids, and moons with merely two resource thingies.

Yeah, okay. Challenge and everything. That's cool but maybe we can get an option to effect that stuff like we can research speed, resource accumulation, so on and so forth.

I made two threads similar to this I believe as well. I want to cast but for some reason the equipment is not working. I had a game against a relatively new player, he just did not stand a chance, I got spawned in a stupid good position(I recall it being as asteroid, moon next to each other and then in order it lead to another moon -> moon -> Enemy planet. The game minidumped but it was about to be a slaughter because of the outrageous amount of corvettes I had and how simple it was to attack an enemy planet from my position.

The biggest problem is that windowed mode doesn't support mouse scrolling.

DEAR STARDOCK

MAKE WINDOWED MODE SUPPORT MOUSE SCROLLING

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE IT SUPPORT MOUSE SCROLLING INSTEAD OF JUST MAKING IT RUN OFF TO THE DESKTOP

For the love of God go play fullscreen...

nah see. when casting... window mode is important for some reason.

And, mouse scrolling still technicly works in windowed...  its the mouse constraining within the window that is the issue.

There is, however, arrow keys? not sure how much that would suck to use.

This. I cannot get x-split to work when the game is in fullscreen for some reason.

I don't understand...what do you mean you can't do mouse scrolling in window mode?  You can zoom in with your mouse wheel just fine, and you can hold in your mousewheel and move the mouse to pan the screen any direction you want to...

Livestream's Procaster is the only widely used casting tool that I know of that works in fullscreen, and that's so riddled with bugs it may as well be useless. Xsplit doesn't support fullscreen. This is a huge deal for us casters and streamers. I rarely, -rarely- stream a game fullscreen unless I have absolutely no other option.

I've tried playing with arrow keys before, and that's a lot less fun. Considering I'd be swapping players a LOT more than I would in SP, arrow keys are very... useless. It's just not conducive to streaming or casting.

When you slide the mouse to the side of the screen, it does not drag your screen in that direction. The camera does not move when your mouse hits the side of the screen, it simply goes off to the desktop/background. Since there's no minimap, and zooming in and out constantly doesn't make for a pretty user experience, it's actually incredibly important for playing in windowed.

I had no idea you were podcasting the game. I assumed you just played it like most others, hence my sarcasm. I do understand your complaints. It should of course be fixed no matter how you like playing the game. I also use windowed mode when I stream Battlefield tournaments so I understand your concerns.

I understand this, but you can move the screen by also holding the mousewheel in and moving the mouse...it is the same effect...

And this should limit the options of my actions beeeccaauuuseee....

Playing through Mount and Blade, Bioshock, and a few others, most games do it. I can't imagine it being terribly hard

I don't understand what you are getting at....

For one, windowed mode does support mouse scrolling...if you hold your mouse at the edge of the screen, it will indeed scroll that direction....I play in window mode probably 90% of the time, and I've never had a problem doing this...

On the assumption that for whatever reason you find this method unacceptable, I am positing another choice: holding down the scroll wheel and moving your mouse to pan and move your view around...it does the same exact thing as mouse scrolling...

Then you're playing on a special version I don't get. Quickly moving my mouse to one side simply lets it roll off the screen, and even if I'm somehow missing it (which is possible! I've been known to be blind at times) in the heat of things that's not exactly useful. Having to stop on the edge of my window and position my mouse juuuust right takes effort that isn't conducive to gameplay, and is probably actually detrimental to my actions when a battle is going on halfway across the universe and I need to be in 8 places at once.

Why are you so against this idea? What do you have against them making the game have borders? I dislike using the mouse wheel. It's a preference. What if it were switched around? If your mouse wheel didn't work, would you still hate the method then? I can respect your use and like for the mouse wheel. That doesn't mean, in any way, that the windowed mode should not only break immersion by tossing me out of the game, but also make scrolling in the most traditional method in any RTS/Strat/4X unappealing and nigh useless.

Woah dude, I never once said I was against this...just trying to be helpful and give you some alternatives that currently do work and won't require the game to be changed...

As someone who's be here some time, I can tell you that the devs don't always implement changes no matter how good or obvious they are...sometimes you have to find a work around instead of hoping the devs will change the game...

Apologies, it seemed to me you were against the idea.

In either case, it won't even be brought up for discussion at the dev table unless we express a need for it.

It's not a matter of simply having another person there. I did that once, had a guy I was friends with sub in for a League game when he knew a quarter of the champions and shit all about mechanics and tactics. It doesn't go over well. I'd rather go solo than work with somebody who doesn't know the game. Not that I can blame him, the game isn't his style and if he doesn't like it I'm not going to force him to buy and play it just for some casting.

EDIT: Is there a way to tell who's on who's team without memorizing it beforehand? I've never watched a replay.

You can switch to any player view screen during the replay. So you can see each specific person's allies, research, build queues, etc.

You may consider PMing a dev (probably Yarlen) about this issue...I think the key is making the argument that these changes would facilitate casting, which would bring more publicity to Rebellion...

Quoting scp121, reply 41

What exactly do you mean by this?  You can "see" everything on the map at all times, and I do believe you also can see all chat...however, you have to switch between players to see things like research, construction ques, etc....

Is it possible to see an entire teams stats or overviews at once or is it limited to one player?

I'm not aware of anything that is "See only team A" or "See only team B"...either something can always be seen or you can only see it when you are viewing through a certain player...

So yes, I think you are going to have to memorize who's on each team...

On the bright side, ships are usually grouped together in the empire tree and when zoomed out based on whether they are friend or enemy..

Yeah. I'm not upset, it'd just have been nice. Or a team color option. Not the same color for everybody, but somebody on the red team gets a pink ally a yellow one, an orange one, etc

This actually can be done via the game options...under "User Interface", the very first option "Use Team Colors" makes all allies green and all enemies red...

But can it be done in a replay/spectator mode?

Well since it is set in the options menu, I would assume so...it would probably take the color perspective of whoever you are currently "playing" as....if you are following Player 1 who is on team A, then all team A will be green....but if you switch to player 7 who is on team B, then team A would become red and team B would be green...

Might actually end up being more confusing than just going with the original colors unless you don't plan on switching players....

Yeah, that seems a little more complicated than anything. I'll have to dig around in some replays to find out exactly what happens.

For the best spectator experience would be as I suggested, with similar colors for each team, but obvious differences between the two sides. Red and blue, etc. That way you can associate names and colors and differentiate between teams easily.

it really is quite unfortunate how little support there is compared to sc2.... course when sins first came out, thats fine, they can get away with it, but for rebellion... youda really woulda thunk they would have put in this stuff...  *sigh*

at least sins HAS a replay function. i guess.
