Emsisoft has a new, free “Portable Emergency Kit” v. 1.0.0.25

Wiz has an emergency kit and so do I.

In fact, everyone should (along with disk images on external backups). My disk image saved my bacon very recently. If you’re the “go to” guy for tech stuff for your family and neighbors, this is a must.

You can add may other useful utilities to it from Nirsoft, and other places (which I encourage you all to add in your comments).

Here’s a great library of utilities and reviews to get you started:  http://www.technibble.com/categories/computer-repair-tools/  . They used to have a kit of 50 tools, but discontinued it. You can browse, pick and choose.

Certainly consider ccleaner, Recuva, Process Explorer, Firefox Portable.

Have some fun putting your own kit together!

So this is what Emsisoft features:

The four utilities included free are:

I hope some good recommendations come along from the great folks here.

You can read about the download (you provide the flash memory unless you want to buy a “package”) here: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/

and you can download it here:  http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/

Just a note: CCleaner is available as a portable, no install needed. Ditto for for Revo Uninstaller, IObit Toolbox, Speccy, Unlocker 32 and 64 bit, SIW, and  some of your favorite tools may also be available as portables. Check the developers website.

While you are putting your tool kit together, don't pass up Portable Apps.com. There are some great system utilities there as well. If you have a USB flashdrive just laying around, load it up with some of these great tools. Just the ticket when a family member or a friend needs you to make a "housecall"

Also in my "tool kit": a cattleprod, a large hammer and a shovel.(hey, you can't save 'em all.) x_x

Aw, c'mon guys. How many hundred files you put on a thumb drive? 10gb? Now my download folder has got a million apps and I need to figure out what to use. I just keep saying to myself, "that one looks good. that one looks good."

Good pix Wiz. Although between Speccy and SIW I think SIW is the better choice. More info. Revo I have and both types of CCleaner, portable and standard. So just the tool box and SIW. That's good enough.

Thanks to both Doc and Wiz for these. Oh...and tell the redneck he needs to upgrade. Sheep 101 has been discontinued.
