PPX Frame Active Caption Text Color [Resolved]

SKS7 is Balking

I want to change the font color of the active caption (titlebar) text in a particular skin to make it more readable on my rig but SKS7 doesn't seem to want to change it:

SKS7 Snap

FTR, I saved & re-applied the skin before taking the screencap.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thx.

Make sure you have 'caption' selected in the tree view on the left. It looks the same in SKS if you just have 'borders' selected, and wont work there.

I can't really tell what you have selected there in that screeny.

That is Caption selected there, Text tab.  Making the change, saving the skin & re-applying it results in the Text Colour shown in the dropdown changing permanently in SKS7, but the color doesn't actually get applied to the Caption text in the loaded skin - it stays white.

Not sure how to explain this but there was something strange going on.  I had launched SKS7 from within SDC when I experienced the issue.  After opening SKS7 from the Start Menu and trying this again, it works as expected - the color has been successfully changed.  Thanks for offering your help, Xiandi.  Gonna let sleeping dogs lie for now.

SDC is still in beta...right? Might be the problem.

I had this problem too Daiwa, but only when developing for Windows XP and not Vista or Win 7. I actually had to go to the Change Skin Colours section in SKS7, then use the drop down to go to Show me the skin designed system colours and change the Active TitleBar text and Inactive Titlebar text colours there and it worked.

This is NOT as SKS7 should work though and it is a bug, so with this post I now consider Stardock Support notified also.

Tom, this isn't a Support thread, so the likelihood of it getting noticed by the folks you really want to see this are slim. I've bookmarked the thread and will try to bring it to support's attention, my friend.

As for that miscreant Daiwa... he's just looking for excuses not to update "Granular" for 7. Don't think you succeeded, Mr. Daiwa. ;)

Yeah. I know Doc, but there are so many things wrong with SKS7 that I have given up on it and work around the issues. IMO they should have someone who knows how to actually use and continually test their products on an almost daily basis, but I guess they don't. It just gets really frustrating after a while. Neither I nor any other skinner should have to report bugs in their products to them, all it takes is someone that works for them to go through and test every aspect of SKS7 and fix the problems encountered. Businesses should not use their customers to test their products, we don't get paid for that. Their products should be fully tested by them before release and I only say this because all the bugs are blatantly obvious if you actually use SKS7. Sorry for my ranting.

Reported Daiwa's and your problem to Zubaz. Hope that'll help...

I have a feeling my issue was an ESO problem (Equipment Smarter than Operator).  I initially looked to launch SKS7 from the StartMenu but didn't see it listed in the Object Desktop folder.  Launched SDC thinking perhaps I hadn't installed it yet (prepping a new rig for my wife) but it wasn't listed in the New Software list.  Clicked on the link to 'View installed software' & there it was - clicked the green 'Click to Launch' link and it indeed launched.  The screenshot I posted was from that instance of SKS.  I closed SKS & SDC & happened to open SDC again a bit later and this time SKS7 was in the New Software list.  So I installed it.  When I then ran SKS the layout of the pages was a bit different, leading me to think that the 'launched' version of SKS I first used was SKS7 Standard and the 'installed' version was Pro.  Not sure how SDC lets you 'launch' an app not installed but maybe that's the case - was a little Twilight Zone experience.

In any event, I was successful making the change to the text color using SKS7 Pro once installed.  Which is a long-winded way of saying this may not be a 'support issue'.  Sorry, Zu.

Some work on a Granular update will likely be possible this summer.  No promises, though - I have a lot to learn about PPX frames and the number of required images has exploded with Win7.
