Bug(?): Corsev Boarding Party broken?

Just started beta-ing on Steam and started playing as TEC rebels, built a Corsev (because the idea of stealing ships appeals to me greatly) and tried to board some "neutral" enemy vessels guarding a desert planet. They received the DoT from the ability but did not get captured. Is this a known bug? Do I misunderstand the ability? (I.E. Does the enemy ship HAVE to be killed by the DoT rather than external damage?) Looked around here on the forums and the known issues page, didn't see mention of it. Going to check further myself, of course.

From what I have experienced with the Corsev, the Boarding Party ability only works the way it should on Advent ships right now. I have used it many times on TEC vessels but none of them got captured after very numerous tries (so it doesn't work on Neutral factions nor on TEC Rebels and Loyalists, not sure about the Pirate faction though)... This definitely needs to be fixed.

Actually, I just got 2 TEC captures with it (1 flak and 1 cobalt) shortly after I leveled it up to 3. Perhaps related? My first game decided to randomly put me against 2 TEC players so I haven't tested it v. Advent yet.

The ability will only capture ships if you are in a friendly gravity well and it's about to die. Otherwise all it will do is damage overtime for the duration of the ability (damage 35/40/45/50 for 10/13.33/16.66/20 seconds).

But the two captures I got were TEC vessels in an enemy gravity well. I mean, it was friendly to them, but not to us. I attacked their planet with 2 frigates, and strategically repositioned with 4.

I'm probably reading the constraint in reverse.

I can't say I know much about how Sins is coded specifically (I am reasonably well-versed in code in general, however) but that could be interpreted either way based on how the effect is calculated. Really just who "friendly" refers to. I'd argue that particular line should be removed, but if it's intentional, I guess I'll deal with it. Anyway, I haven't been defending my own territories enough to state clearly that it HASN'T been working there. I've just not yet seen it occur and I've stopped micromanaging that ship's abilities.

If it's true that the Corsev is only able to capture ships when it's stationed in a friendly gravity well, than that constraint should be removed. The ship isn't that powerful in the first place. I don't see the point in making the ability next to useless when attacking an enemy (or neutral) gravity well...

From the evidence here (and I don't know what other evidence may show) but it seems that it's only good at taking ships in THEIR gravity wells. That seems like a bug, because it makes absolutely no in-game sense. I could see an argument for only being able to capture ships in your own gravity wells (You see, in friendly space the Seabees are able to come and patch up the ship, and if you're away from friendly space there's just no option but to scuttle it.) However, the way it stands it makes no sense, either by in-game logic such as the above or meta-game logic of balance, as you point out. A compromise might be that if you capture a ship in enemy/neutral territory, it is automatically scuttled for damage at whatever skill that ship has it at. Or alternately it's instantly scuttled for supplies: The marines go in, grab the good stuff, the expensive and rare ship parts, and blow it to kingdom come as they head out the airlock. There would also be an argument there for stealing technology, if the marines make out with a next-gen shield projector, for example.

The most yawn inducing ship in the game. Every tech sucks, it looks like shit. This was the new capital I was looking forward too? :X

I can see what it's supposed to do, but I agree it's not as cool as I'd like. It's ulti isn't bad, and I'd like to see how it combines with the Krosov's ulti. I might also argue that it should have more strike craft, for one. The extra strike craft would be so that the shuttlecraft for the various missions have someone to keep enemy fighters and the like off their backs. Maybe also if the salvage passive did an AoE heal?

But all in all, it really doesn't suit me as now. Probably because my general goal in games is NOT to let my stuff blow up. So two of it's three basic abilities don't work for me at all.

Yeah tend to think my frigates blowing up to benefit my capital is not my idea of fun. They should pull  these techs and give us some useful ones.

I have an idea if the envoy can give a increase building rates, why not make this capital a construction capital?  That would increase building rates and building armour within its well or radius.

I was super stoked when I saw this ship was an option. Back in the day playing homeworld I always loved stealing enemy ships. I'm only managed to cap 3-4 advent frigs when in hostile wells. No TEC, no rats. Not sure it's a bug, but the ship would be way better if you could capture any frig with it regardless of where you are.

Early in game having to dump little to no resources into building anything other than a capital ship while you capture nearby planets would be worth trading for a little gimpier Cap ship to start with IMHO.
