So Whats New?

Old player returning

Well i was bored this afternoon and an announcement pops up on steam about rebellion SOASE, and im like THE GAMES STILL ALIVE?!?!?

I had basically quit shortly after 1.04 on the original SOASE cause the balance was too broken and having 3 hour games whenever i sat down to multiplayer just wasnt possible (still isnt >.<) thats ignoring how difficult it was to get a game started with the ultra low player counts.

Regardless im thinking of getting back into the game just some questions, how much as the game changed? Im familiar with the changes that came with entrenchment but after that im lost? Any major game changers since then? Or is it more or less the same game?

Is there any competitive element left, i remember there was kinda an elite group of players who were really good (tyr666 or whatever is the only name i can remember atm >.<)

Just looking for some honest opinions on the state of the game really, i really wanted to love this game back in 1.04 into entrenchment but the terrible mp support bugs/glitches low player count etc ruined it for me, i really want to give this game a second chance but have things improved?

(put this in mulitplayer cause thats the aspect i care to hear the most about)

Lol, most of the people here didn't start playing until 1.05 at least. The original Sins is now at version 1.193, so you missed say 14 patches. And you know, there were those two expansion things.

I doubt the multiplayer culture has changed too much, the elite group is still there, but in theory games could be a lot shorter in Rebellion, with titans, alternative game modes etc. Steam may increase the player counts a lot too but its hard to make any predictions on that.

Interesting, are players split between all original game/each expansion, or have most people moved to most recent expansion?

Pretty much everyone who cares about multiplayer went on the Diplomacy (not that the expansion was the helpful to it beyond faster game options, but just to keep the community together). That will certainly happen again with Rebellion.

It pretty much still plays like Entrenchment does.  Diplomacy didn't add much for the multiplayer PvP game other than a "Faster" speed setting and the requirement that you do a little bit of research before you can feed credits and resources to allies.  Rebellion pretty much plays like Diplomacy but with the new Titans.

For you, the biggest change will probably be a dramatic reduction in lag and the frequency of minidumps.

I haven't seen Tyr in a long time so you're safe.

There seem to be several excellent players out there who have established new secretive identities.  You can tell that they are great players based on their records, but it's hard to say who they used to be before they started playing Rebellion.  Who knows.  Perhaps JJ and Tyr are out there, somewhere.  I'm sure JJ's around; he wouldn't want to miss this.

Just fyi Tyr is definitely around and i've played upwards of 10 rebellion games with him.
